POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG RECAP: On yesterday’s episode of “Tawag Ng Tanghalan,” ex-defending champion Jex de Castro gave the “golden mikropono” to the new title holder, Philip Mancol. Jex was one win short of making it to the semi-finals. Today is a battle between the new defending champion and new contenders. Will Brix Ferraris’ look alike, Philip Mancol, get another win? or will he be a one-time defending champion on the show?

Tawag Ng Tanghalan December 22 Performances

First contender on stage was Marlo Falcon from Pasay. Marlo is 26 years old. He and his partner had a child sooner than expected. They both had to separate for the mean time so they can both finish their studies and give a brighter future for their child. Marlo sings for gig sometimes and sells products in a networking business to provide for his family. Marlo sang “Two Less Lonely People in the World” hoping to impress the judges.Hurado Mitoy said he owned the song while Hurado Karylle said Marlo’s aura was very appealing and his voice would sound good on the radio.

Twenty-four-year-old Mike Luna from Pangasinan was next on stage. Mike is a fourth year BS HRM working student. Aside from singing, he can also dance and is currently part of the “Rival Movers” dance crew in Dagupan. Mike sang “Pagbigyang Muli” by Erik Santos. Hurado Billy Crawford said Mike’s song was challenging but his performance was smooth and he really liked his rendition.

Last contender was Jeremiah Saavedra from Zambianga. Jeremiah is a 28-year-old teacher, PhD student, make up artist and of course, a singer. He sang “Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita” hoping to give a better performance than Marlo and Mike. Hurado Karla Estrada noticed how nervous he was as he started but still said he did a good job.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan December 22 Kampeon, Thursday Winner

The contender who managed to impress the Hurados was Mike Luna garnering an average score of 91.2 percent. Mike sang “Got to Believe in Magic” to battle the new defending champion, Philip Mancol. Philip chose a jazz song “Feeling Good” by Micheal Buble. So who wins this battle?

Garnering an average of 93.2 percent, the winner is — Philip Mancol. This is Philip’s second win on the show.

Tawag ng Tanghalan airs on ABS-CBN, Monday to Friday at noon.
