POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG: Froilan Canlas ended with his eighth win yesterday as new defending champion Arnel Nadonza took the title from him. Froilan was short of two more wins to become Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s Hall of Famer. No worries for fans because Froilan Canlas is already a semi-finalist on the show. So, will Arnel Nadonza follow Sam Mangubat and Froilan Canlas footsteps? or will he be a one day champion?
Tawag Ng Tanghalan December 9 Performances
First contender on stage was Jenver Mae Barra. This 15-year-old is a consistent honor student. She is the last child in the family. Her father is a jeepney driver and her mom is a market vendor. Jenver’s older sister is a singer in Korea. Because of this, she and her siblings are able to go to school. Jenver’s dream is to win Tawag Ng Tanghalan so her sister won’t work anymore and would come home from Korea. Hurado Karylle said she was very confident on stage and with everything she has Jenver will get there very soon. Louie Ocampo said technically she was equipped. Hurado Billy said she just needs to watch out for some of her flat notes, but he also liked her voice and performance.
Next on stage was Mary Fiel Tercio from Cavite. Mary is a sales lady, singer for gigs and events and a single mom. Her father is a jeepney driver dad and her mom is a housewife. Mary sings for amateur contests and as a videoke saleslady, she has to sing some songs to market the videoke. She sang “I Love You” by Celine Dion to impress the judges. Hurado Yeng Constantino said Mary had a good voice and liked her head tones but she had to consider dynamics.
Erika Joy Uychiat from Negros Occidental was last on stage. Erika is the eldest and belongs to a struct family. Her father is her mentor in singing. Erika sang “Araw, Gabi” by Nony Zuniga. Hurado Erik said he liked her voice and said she’s just 14 but shes a good and effective story teller. Vice Ganda said she could be an ‘artista’ someday and even encouraged her to join workshops in the future. Hurado Louie said Erika has a long way to go in this competition.

Among the three contenders, 14-year-old mala-artista Erika Uychiat won and is Friday daily winner with an average score of 91.8 percent. Will she beat new defending champion Arnel Nadonza?
Erika sang Ryan Cayabyab’s “Tuwing Umuulan at Kapiling Ka” to battle Arnel Nadonza. Defending champion Arnel sang “Dakilang Lahi” by Ciara Sotto. It’s a battle between a low well modulated voice and an alto sweet and well modulated voice as well. Who won the battle?
Arnel Nadonza grabs another win garnering an average score of 91.6 percent. This is is second win.
