POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG/RECAP: On Saturday’s episode of “Tawag Ng Tanghalan sa Showtime,” Jex De Castro beat his own record as he got his fifth win and finally makes it to the semi-finals. Jex cried as he got his win and expressed how frustrated he was the first time he joined and made it only to four wins. Jex remains as the show’s defending champion, and battles more contenders until someone wins and takes his place.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan Feb. 13 Performances
Josie May Igot from Laguna was first to take the stage. Josie is a 2-year-old graduating Industrial Engineering student. She got her singing talent from her father. Josie loves singing and makes it a way to earn a bit of income. She sings for wedding, debuts and other events. Josie sang “Kapag Ako Ay Nagmahal.”
Hurado Ricky Jay Puno, who celebrates his birthday today, said her Josie’s low registers were really great but lacked power in her high register notes. He also advised her no to hold back next time she performs.
Twenty-nine-year-old Elmer Jun Hilario from Negros Occidental was the next contender on stage. Elmer is s songwriter/independent musician who sings for events, hotels, casinos and has had one song produced by MYX. He also sings for commercials and company jingles. He also works as a technical support specialist. These jobs help him put two of his younger siblings to school. He dreams of becoming a famous musician and singing “She Will Be Loved” on today’s show was his stepping stone to reach that.
Elmer was the complete package said Punong Hurado Rey Valera. Mr. Valera said he liked the fact that Elmer was the one searching for different platforms to showcase his talent and was reminded of himself when he was young. Hurado Rey encouraged him to visit ABS-CBN office to get more details on where he can send more of his work.
Last contender was 43-year-old contender from South Cotabato, Christopher Arciosa. Christopher does ‘ukay-ukay’ but does not have any permanent store space. He uses his van and goes around the farm and market place to sell his goods. Christopher is the bread winner of his family: his older sister and mother. He has a child with his ex-girlfriend who is now in Canada. They’ve been separated for years since they were both too young when they had their child. “Dance with my Father” was the song Christopher sang on the show.
Hurado Billy said he and the judges loved his voice but suggested he sings more OPM songs wich suits his voice more.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan Feb. 13 Champion
Monday winner for Tawag Ng Tanghalan is contender from Visayas, Elmer Jun Hilario with an average score of 90.4 percent. For the face-off, Elmer sang “Break Even” by The Script. Semi-finalst and Defending champion Jex De Castro sang “Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin.” Will Jex win this battle?
The hurados have spoken, today’s winner is — Jex De Castro garnering an average score of 93 percent. This is Jex’s 6th win on the show. Now that he is in for the finals, he tries to make it to Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s Hall of Famer.
