Tawag Ng Tanghalan Feb. 17 Episode

Twenty-one-year-old “lola’s girl” Samantha Feliza from Marikina City was first on stage. Samantha stopped school to work as a band vocalist in her band. Now she’s back in school but tries to put a balance to both as she sings “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt. This is her third try to join a singing contest on TV.

Hurado Karylle noticed how Samantha was able to express the emotions of her song and saw passion, truth and beauty in her performance. The hurados noticed how the singing now is different from the style before. Hurado Jaya noticed her vocal riffs and liked how she used it to her advantage in her performance.

Next on stage was contender from Luna La Union, Azilejayne Flores. This 17-year-old Grade 11 student dreams of becoming a famous singer someday. Her mother is a high school teacher and her father, a trike driver. She sang “Back In Your Arms Again” written by punong hurado Ogie Alcasid, hoping to win and use what she earns for her studies.

Ogie said Azilejayne is a “biritera” and just needed talent refinement. He said she had the goods and chose the right song for the competition.

Last contender of the day was Laurence Qunikis from Zamboanga City. Laurence is the breadwinner of his family. He worked and studied at the same time to support himself, his mother and four other siblings. Laurence is now a senior high school math teacher. Apart from that, he is also an electrical engineer. He now has his own family and chose to join Tawag Ng Tanghalan hoping to win and build a house for his wife and their daughter. Laurence sang “25 Minutes” by Micheal Learns To Rock.

Hurado K Brosas called his performance “very safe” and lacked a bit of ad lib. Hurado Nyoy liked the texture, range and raspiness of his voice but just commented on his facial expressions. The song was a sad song but he was smiling in some parts of the song.
