POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG/RECAP: Yesterday’s face-off on Tawag Ng Tanghalan was one of the most interesting ones as hurados gave a standing ovation for Adelene Rabulan’s rendition of Sia’s “Chandelier.” Because of her outstanding performance, Adelene became the new defending champion stealing the “golden mikropono” from Crismille Valiente who got three wins. Today, Adelene fights for her second win. Will she make it?
Tawag Ng Tanghalan Feb 2 Performances
First contender was Kheene Salas from Libis City. Kheene has been singing and joining singing competitions since he was eleven years old and usually wins. But when he was in his teens, his voice started to change and started to lose in competitions. Kheene then joined theater shows and talent shows instead. Now at seventeen, he takes the stage singing “Mahal na Mahal Kita” by Sam Concepcion giving it another try inspired by other contestants on the show. Hurado Billy said he noticed R&B was Kheene’s strength. He advised Kheene to know his limitations when it comes to his vocal riffs.
Maria Lyn Villanueva from Iloilo was next on stage. Thirty-five-year-old Maria is an elementary MAPEH teacher during weekdays and a voice teacher during weekends. She was raised by her mother while her father passed away when she was still young. Now, Maria is happily married for eight years. Maria sang “Wind Beneath My Wings” hoping to reach her second dream: become a famous singer. Punong hurado Ogie Alcasid described her performance as “heartfelt” and just commented a bit on Maria’s diction.
Last contender of the day was sixty-year-old Ceasar Hipos from Osamis. Ceasar is single at his age. He works as an administrative aid and dedicated his life to counseling troubled teenagers. Ceaser sang Louie Ocampo’s “Kahit Isang Saglit.” Unfortunately, punong hurado Ogie signaled for the gong. When asked why, hurado Louie and Ogie said Ceasar wasn’t able to hit the notes the song demanded. This automatically disqualifies Ceasar from the competition.

Between Kheene and Maria, Kheene Salas proved to be better. He won an average score of 89 percent. For the face-off, Kheene sang “Out of my League.” Defending champion Adelene Rabulan battled Kheene with Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” hoping to keep her place.
The hurados have decided, today’s champion is — Adelene Rabulan garnering an average score of 93.4 percent. Tawag Ng Tanghalan airs Mondays to Saturdays on ABS-CBN at noon.
