Sam Mangubat Sings Remember Me, Goes For All Millenials

First on stage was Sam Mangubat. He was given the song “Remember Me” by Renz Verano. Sam says he guesses the hurados gave him this song to challenge him because through the competition, he rarely sings OPM songs. Right after his performance, Vice said “Sumosyal,” while 100 percent of the hurados gave him a standing ovation.

Punong hurado Rey Valera thanked him for putting this “crazy idea” into a reality. He said this move was to try to put him closer to the masses and even said now, he loves Sam.

Julia Faith Joaquin Sings ‘Hello’ by Adele, proves She’s not only for Broadway

“Hello” by Adele was the song hurados gave Julia Faith Joaquin. The judges know how Julia  loves singing the classics and some theatrical songs as well. For today, she was given a pop song which demands a bit of “birit.” It seems she did justice to the song and showed a different side of her that she hasn’t shown before. What do the judges think?

Hurado Ogie Alcasid likes how well Julia Faith delivered the song that wasn’t so much of her comfort zone. He said she performed with “aplomb” or much confidence and proved to the judges she cannot be boxed in singing just broadway songs.

Carl Malone Montecido sings ‘I Believe I Can Fly’

Carl Malone Montecido was asked to sing R Kelly’s hit song, “I Believe I Can Fly.” When hurados revealed to him that this was going to be his contest piece, Carl was more than happy to take it. Apparently, this song is one of his favorites. No wonder he was able to sing it beautifully and with passion.

Hurado Erik said it wasn’t a mistake for the hurados to choose this song for Carl. They wanted him to show his passion for his craft and that is exactly what he did. Great performance said hurado Erik.

Jex De Castro Sings ‘Say That You Love Me’

“Balladeer” was the word  the hurados used to call Jex De Castro. Since he is a balladeer, hurados gave him Louie Ocampo’s “Say That You Love Me.” As soon as he knew the hurados’ song choice, he was happy. Jex sang this back in high school and now he sings it on the Tawag Ng Tanghalan stage and certainly put his “magic touch” on it.

Hurado Ogie Alcasid said even if he wasn’t one of Jex’s avid girl fans, he felt giddy and loved his performance. “Aplomb” was a word Ogie used for Jex as wel.

Hazleyn Cascano takes on Chaka Khan

Hazelyn Cascano was next on stage. “Biritera” says hurado Jaya and the other hurados said they wanted to give her something that didn’t entail too much power. Her song, “Gotta Be There” by Chaka Khan. Hazelyn wasn’t at all comfortable with the song and said that it was her first time to hear it and sing it as well. Well, turns out she owned the song on stage!

“Your talent is immensely huge, wala ako masabi” says Hurado Jaya. She said they really chose a song that they felt challenged her as an artist. She knew Hazelyn could do it and said she never fails to bring joy to the hurados.

Froilan Canlas Sings Basil Valdez Hit, ‘Sana Ay Ikaw Nanga’

Hurados know that Froilan Canlas has the falsetto and a powerful voice. They called him an old soul becuase of his song choices. Hurados gave him the OPM hit by Basil Valdez, “Sana Ay Ikaw Nanga.” And yes, Froilan’s signature falsetto voice was there!

A hundred percent standing ovation from hurados as well! Erik Santos was teary-eyed as he said Froilan was able to bring out the emotion the song demanded from him. “Iba Ka” says hurado Billy and said that he was he one who actually chose the song for him and said he really wasn’t so sure about it. But Billy said he has a powerful but sweet falsetto voice and his dynamics, great! This makes him believe that Froilan can indeed sing any genre given to him.

Joylaine Canonio challenged with Diana Ross song, ‘It’s My Turn’

“Bababeng walang lalamunan” says hurado Jaya. Hurados acknowledge the fact that Joylaine is a great singer who effortlessly sings high notes. The hurados have decided to give her “It’s My Turn” by Diana Ross. Joylaine took on the challenge singing something she hasn’t sang before. Nervous yes, but she said she also wanted to see how far her voice and talent can go with this song.

Hurado Rey Valera said he really chose this song for Joylaine to see how she would handle a classy song. He said that if Joylaine would take her raw talent and channel it to different classy songs, it would really be good for the industry.
