POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG: Lalainne Arana from Mindanao is officially a semifinalist. On Tawag Ng Tanghalan Jan 10 episode, Lalainne battles today’s daily winner with the hopes of getting her sixth win. Will Lalainne make it?
On Tawag Ng Tanghalan Jan 9 episode, Lalainne Arana went head to head with daily winner from Visayas, Gyan Carla Dolfo. Gyan’s winning song was Anita Baker’s “Caught Up In the Rapture.” For the battles, she took on Faith Hill singing “There You’ll Be.” Lalainne, on the other hand, sang “Alone” by Heart. In the end, Lalainne stole the golden microphone.
This isn’t Lalainne’s first time making it as a semifinalist on TNT. She won as the daily winner in July 2016 and first became a semifinalist in August 2016. Lalainne battled through the semis with John Mark Saga, Jovany Satera, Alfred Relatado, and Aila Santos. Unfortunately, on day five of the semis, Judge Louie Ocampo gonged her out. Tawag Ng Tanghalan Jan 10 performances, daily winner, and champion
First contender, Jam Ocampo from Quezon City. Jam works as a personal trainer and is a licensed Physical Therapist. He is now pursuing his doctorate degree online. On the side, he does events working as a host and singer. Jam works hard for his grandmother who now suffers from dementia. He sang “Careless Whisper” by George Michael.
Judge Karylle’s only comment was Jam’s connection with the audience how she loved his falsetto and deep voice. Judge Mitoy said Jam was a bit careless when he started but he was able to redeem himself towards the end.
Second contender, Boyet Onte from Batangas. Boyet is a voice coach and a solo parent to his son, Baste. He makes ends meet through teaching but says it isn’t enough. Boyet wasn’t able to finish his degree in music because his family couldn’t afford it. But thanks to people who have seen him perform through singing competitions, he is able to do what he does now. Boyet’s only motivation is his son. He takes the stage singing “Danny Boy” belting out that powerful last note.
Judge Rey Valera noticed Boyet wasn’t quite able to hit that first note but said he was surprised to see that he was able to find the right tune immediately. He said he loved Boyet’s passion and showmanship in his performance.
Third contender, Ritchel Mondigo from Iloilo. Ritchel is a band vocalist and also a solo parent who has 2 sons. She joined TNT in November 2017 and used her consolation prize to start her own RTW shop. These are what she does for her family. She joins TNT again because she believes she still has what it takes to make it. Ritchel sang “Tuwing Umuulan” by Regine Velasquez.
Judge Kayla love Ritchel’s vocal tone and called her a seasoned pro. But performance wise, she advised her to engage more with her audience through eye contact. Judge Nyoy said he noticed some sharps and flats but weren’t that major.
TNT Jan 10 daily winner and champion. After today’s performances, the judges have decided that contender from Luzon, Boyet Onte, deserves to be today’s daily winner. Boyet got an average score of 92.8 percent.
For the battles, Boyet sang “I Who Have Nothing” by Tom Jones. Semifinalist and defending champion Lalainne Arana, on the other hand, sang “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan champion garnering an average score of 93.8 percent is Boyet Onte.
Tawag ng Tanghalan airs via ABS-CBN Mondays to Saturdays at noon.
