On Friday, the show remembered and featured the most memorable performances of the year 2016. On Saturday, the ‘madlang people’ were able to see performances from the semi-finalists. Today’s episode marks the 1st year anniversary of “Tawag Ng Tanghalan sa Showtime.” On Thursday last year, defending champion Weina Marie Eray was able to keep her title after a battle with Thursday winner Emil James Alingas. Weina won over Emil with an average score of 91 percent singing Adele’s song “When We Were Young.” This is Weina’s second win on the show and she is now fighting for her third win. This 24-year-old promodizer sells Videoke at a mall. He had to stop school so he can help support his family. Kevin lives with his partner, Mark, for five years now. They both work for special events. Kevin is a singer and host while Mark does make up. Kevin sang “You’ll never Walk Alone” which showcased his high vocal range. Hurado Karylle said she felt the pressure while Kevin was onstage which affected his performance but towards the end he was able to recover. Hurado Yeng said Kevin’s last note was flawless despite some notes he wasn’t able to hit in the middle of the song. It was Hera Kate Laz’s turn to impress the judges. Hera is from Negros Occidental and is just 16 years old. Hera loves singing and is part of the school choir. Both her parents love singing, so she is proud to say that she got her golden voice from her parents. Her father is a seaman and her mom stays at home. Hera sang “Light of a Million Mornings” giving her best as she dreams of becoming a famous singer one day. Hurado Rey Valera appreciated Hera’s voice quality and said he hopes she makes it the battle round. Emily Abello from Zamboanga del Norte is last but not the least challenger of the day. The 46-year-old mom chose “Dito Ba” by Kuh Ledesma as her contest piece. Emily is married to a policeman while she takes care of her small ‘sari sari’ store. They both have one son who works at a hotel in Cebu. Emily’s dream is to sing on National TV. Hurado Karla Estrada liked Emily’s song choice and said she was able to give a good performance. Hurado Ogie Alcasid liked Emily’s voice control and called her performance ‘magara.’ Tawag Ng Tanghalan January 2 Kampeon, Monday Winner It is up to the hurados to choose the daily winner for Tawag Ng Tanghalan. And today is Emily Abello‘s lucky day as she wins with an average score of 92.2 percent. For the face-off, Emily sang “Hiram,” a hit made popular by pop singer Zsa Zsa Padilla. Defending champion Weina Marie Eray battled Emily with the classic “I Want to Know What Love Is.” So who wins today’s batlle?
