On yesterday’s episode, inspiring teacher Joylaine got her third win, winning over daily winner Kimberly Adrales with an average score of 95.6 percent. Joylaine needs five wins to make it to the semi-finals and today she goes for her fourth win.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan Jan 21 Performances

First on stage was contender from Mandaluyong City, thirty-one-year-old Hershey Salvatierra. Hershey became a single parent at the age of twenty one. She had to work in Korea as a singer to provide more for her son. She came home to the Philippines in 2008 and became a solo singer and now a band vocalist.  Hershey sang “Inseperable” hoping to touch the heart of the judges. Hurado Karylle loved her voice and she says the song is perfect for her voice.

Next on stage was Arturo Dacles Jr. from Quezon. Arturo is seventeen years old and lives with his dad. His mother left them when he was just six years old. Arturo found out that he has a younger sister who lives with her mom and now hopes to win the competition to help his family and finally have the means to meet his younger sister. Arturo sang “Bulag, Pipi, Bingi” by Freddie Aguilar. Punong hurado Ogie Alcasid liked his voice and how strong his performance was when he started but became weak towards the middle and end. Ogie advised Arturo to own the stage the next time he performance.

Last contender was Iloilo’s representative, twenty-four-year-old Rushyen Buensuceso. Rushyen is a vocalist. She had to stop school to give way to her two other siblings since the family could not support their studies all at the same time. Rushyen takes this opportunity to pursue her dream to become a famous singer. Apo Hiking Society’s “Nakapagtataka” was Rushyen’s contest piece for the day. Hurado Erik Santos said Rushyen’s voice was sweet and powerful but had a bit of difficulty hitting high notes.

Saturday winner is Rushyen Buensuceso with an average score of 91.2 percentFor the face-off, Rushyen sang Rachelle Ann Go’s “Bakit.” Defending champion Joylaine on the other hand sang “Patuloy Ang Pangarap” by Angeline Quinto.
