Tawag Ng Tanghalan

POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG RECAP: New defending champion Emily Abello won in yesterday’s episode of Tawag Ng Tanghalan. Emily’s winning contest piece was “Hiram.” Her performance got her an average score of 92.2 percent and won over ex-defending champion Wein Marie Eray who sang “I Want To Know What Love Is.” Emily has been dreaming of singing on national TV. Now that it has become a reality, she now moves on to her second dream, winning the competition. Will she get her second win today?

Tawag Ng Tanghalan January 3 Performances

Glenn Lasmarias was the first contender to show off his talent on stage. Glenn is a 26-year-old nurse who resides in Taguig. He is a nurse both in the hospital and at home. Glenn takes care of his father who has a kidney disease. For the competition, he sang “Through the Fire” and it really did showcase his high ranged voice. Hurado Jaya and Karla Estrada was shocked with Glenn’s falsetto voice but they were both looking for more power.

Twenty-seven-year-old Ram Mariano from Bulacan was next on stage. Ram came from a broken family. His mother left him and his family when he was just four. He and his siblings grew up with his father and grandmother. Years passed, both his grandmother and father passed away. Ram is now supported by his sister who works in Saipan. Ram chose “The Last Time” by Eric Benet as his contest piece. Hurado Rey Valera said Ram’s voice gave him goosebumps and he noticed how good he was in singing broken notes.

Last contender to challenge today’s defending champion was Rolando Canete from Cebu. Rolando worked in Canada for awhile and came home because of the recession. Rolando now manages his own Automated ‘Tubig’ Machine (ATM) business and joined Tawag Ng Tanghalan to hopefully use his talent to provide a better life for his family. Rolando chose to sing Anthony Costelo’s “Ibig Kong Ibigin Ka.” Hurado Karylle thought the band overpowered his voice during his performance although she thinks that it was a matter of song choice. New Hurado, Ogie Alcasid called him a ‘crooner’ and said Rolando’s baritone voice is something that is rare in the competition.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan January 3 Champion, Tuesday Winner

After the performances of all three contenders, hurados now have to choose today’s winner. Garnering an average score of 90.8 percent,  Rolando Canete was declared as Tuesday winner. It was a close fight between him and Ram Mariano who got an average score of 90.4 percent.

For the face-off, Rolando sang “Promise of Love” by Martin Nievera hoping to impress the judges. Defending champion Emily Abello on the other hand battled Rolando with the song “Neither One of Us” by Gladys Knight. Both contenders gave suave performances with their song choices almost of the same genre.

The hurados have decided, today’s kampeon is–Emily Abello with an average score of 91 percent. This is Emily’s second win on the show, three more and she is in for the semi finals.
