Tawag Ng Tanghalan Jan 5 Performances
Jo Ramos from Ermita, Manila was the first to take the stage. This 39-year-old singer and comedian used to be a food analyst for four years. Now sells packed lunch during daytime, manages her clothing and bag shop online and sings at bars and hotels in the evening. Jo sang her version of Gladys Knights’ “The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me.” Hurado Karylle says Jo’s voice and style was really unique and she thoroughly enjoyed her performance. Hurado Ogie said she might have sang a bit better that Gladys Knight Jo just had to fix some of her pronunciation.
It was Gerlyn Abano’s time to shine as she sang Beyonce’s hit, “Beautiful Nightmare.” This 18-year-old singer joined Tawag Ng Tanghalan in February last year. She won as daily winner but wasn’t able to grab the ‘golden mikropono’ from Jaime Navarro then. Hurado Rey Valera commended her for her voice and her looks.
Sixteen-year-old Christine Lyka Estrella was the last challenger of the day. Aside from singing, Christine plays the piano and guitar. She also performs at theater plays in their school. She looks up to Charice Pempengco and dreams to perform for the world like her. Hurado Mitoy, who celebrates his birthday today by the way, said he liked Christine’s voice and was impressed how mature she sounds even if she is just 16 years old.
