Tawag Ng Tanghalan July 17 Recap: Aerone Mendoza Fights For Second Win

POPCORN TIME RECAP: On Tawag Ng Tanghalan July 17 episode, new defending champion Aerone Mendoza fought for his second win. On Saturday, Aerone beat three-time defending champion Nabela Gudito singing “Paminsan Minsan” by Richard Reynoso. Here’s what you missed on TNT Monday episode.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan July 17 Performances, daily winner, and champion

First contender, John Lacno. John from Rizal considers this his second life. He worked as a band vocalist in Bangkok, Thailand and then in Dubai. It was in Dubai where he got into an accident. He had too much to drink, out balanced, and fell out of a window and landed 20 feet on the ground. He was rushed to the hospital and had to have a titanium plate in his skull. He sang American Idol Ruben Studdard’s version of “Superstar.”

Judge Yeng liked how John’s singing voice was so different from his speaking voice. She liked his normal R&B groove. Yeng’s only issue was proper breathing and to that Judge Louie Ocampo agreed.

Second contender, Victor Emmanuel Lumod II. Victor is singer and frisbee enthusiast from Cebu. He’s a second-year Business Administration student and can’t wait to graduate. Victor has no problem handling things in sports and school, but when it comes to singing he feels he has a long way to go in terms of confidence. In fact, this is his first time to join a singing contest. Victor sang “You Give Love A Bad Name” forgetting some of his lines at the beginning but was able to pull through ‘till the end.

Head Judge Rey Valera said he was impressed by how Victor was able to get the audience’s participation in his performance. Rey was a bit worried that he forgot some of the lyrics of the song but was happy to see him finish strong. Valera said he did a good job on his first try.

Third contender, Rejine Polido. Rejine works a singer at a hotel and manages her own sari sari store. Rejine does it all for her kids and wants to give them a better life. She’s married to her ex-band mate Keyboardist who now works in Abu Dhabi. Rejine sang “Get Here” by Oleta Adams and had a bit of a struggle as she reached her last notes. Unfortunately, Judge Rey had to signal for the gong.

Judge Rey Valera and Erik Santos said Rejine wasn’t in the right timing in some parts of the song. They said she was too nervous that it affected her performance.

TNT July 17 daily winner, face-off, and champion. Daily winner is contender from Rizal, John Lacno. For the face-off, John sang “A Song For You” by Ray Charles. Defending champion Aerone Mendoza, on the other hand, battled John singing “All My Life” by America.

The time has come for a decision. Tawag Ng Tanghalan July 17 champion is Aerone Mendoza. This is Aerone’s second win on the show.
