Or will she meet her match today? Tawag Ng Tanghalan July 20 performances, daily winner, and champion First contender, Shierra Kate Sumacot. Shierra is an only child from Quezon city. Her parents consider her a miracle child ever since they lost her older sister to a rare liver disease. Her parents gave her everything and now she wants to give back to them through joining TNT. Shierra sang “I’ll Be There” by Jackson 5. While Shierra was performing, Gary and the judges were a bit uneasy listening to her. Towards the middle of the song, head Judge Gary had to signal for the gong. Gary Valenciano said Shierra got the gong not because Shierra didn’t have the voice. It was because she didn’t quite hit her notes well. Gary and judge Yeng encouraged her to come back stronger and do better next time. Second contender, Marie Jasmine Ibay. Jasmine is inspired by her mom, an OFW who works in Ireland and sacrifices everything for her and her brother. She does great in school and sports but her dream is to become a famous singer someday. Jasmine hopes joining TNT would somehow make her mom proud. She sang “Stone Cold” by Demi Lovato singing for her mom and for all sons and daughters of OFW out there. Head Judge Gary V was impressed that at 17 years old, Jasmine has such great impact on stage. Gary said she shouldn’t dress or act older than her age because looking young with a powerful voice is such an advantage for her. It wasn’t a perfect performance but she was passionate about it which made it excellent. Third contender, Victor Gutang. “Age doesn’t matter in reaching dreams,” says 48-year-old utility worker Victor. Victor is passionate about his work and his singing. He’s been joining contests since his teens. Victor is art of the Negros Occidental choir and is even due to join a choral competition in Singapore soon. Meanwhile, Victor takes the TNT stage singing “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” by The Platters. Judge Ogie Alcasid noticed Victor was a veteran singer. It shows in the way he moves on stage. He didn’t have so much to say about Victor’s performance but was curious to hear him sing a song with a different genre. Judge Jed Madela loved Victor’s voice and called it classic and timeless. TNT July 20 daily winner, face-off, and champion. Today’s daily winner garnering an average score of 92.8 percent is Mary Jasmine Ibay. For the face-off, Mary Jasmine sang Sia’s “Chandelier” while two-time defending champion Aila Santos sang “Love Takes Time” by Mariah Carey. It’s time for the judges’ decision.
