POPCORN LIVE BLOG: On Tawag Ng Tanghalan July 26 episode, seven-time defending champion Aila Santos broke her winning streak, losing to Jehramae Triangia. Jehramae’s rendition of “Muli” at the face-off round was a powerful performance causing her to triumph over fan-favorite Aila Santos. Tawag ng Tanghalan July 27 Performances, Daily Winner, and Champion

The first contender is Katherine Medina from Metro Manila. Katherine started singing when she was four years old. She joined Tawag ng Tanghalan to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor someday. She works in various jobs on the side while studying. For her contest piece today, she chose Billy Joel’s jazzy tune, “New York State of Mind.” Judge Nyoy Volante says the she has a very beautiful voice and that he enjoyed her performance. Judge Jaya agrees with Nyoy and also says that  Katherine’s theatrical side was radiant in her rendition. She commended Katherine for the uncommon song choice.

The second contender is Luzon’s Kristine Ramirez. When Kristine was only four years old, her grandmother taught her how to sing. Since then she joined singing contests but when her grandmother passed away she focused on her studies. After college, she moved to Manila and got a job as a call center agent while her grandfather stays home in Samar. She dreams to be a singer someday and to help her family have a better life. She also wants her grandfather to see her sing on TV to make him proud. Kristine sang “Narito Ako” made famous by Regine Velasquez. Judge Ray Valera commented on the song choice and how Kristine interpreted it. He felt that there is was mismatch with how she performed and how the judges were feeling.

Third contender is Lalainne Araña from Mindanao. It was her parents who taught her how to sing at a very young age and she joined singing contests as a child. Growing up was difficult because it ends won’t meet most of the time. Her father is an ambulance driver and although her mother wanted to work abroad, this plan did not succeed. Lalainne decided to move to Manila with her mother. With the little money she had, she fixed the roof of the home they were staying in. Her ultimate dream is to build a house for her family and so she joined Tawag ng Tanghalan. While she was singing “I Am Changing” by Jennifer Hudson, the judges were amazed. Judge K Brosas said that even if she had a shaky start, she redeemed herself and did a good job. Judge Billy Crawford also said that she was consistent and pitch perfect.

TNT’s July 27 daily winner, face-off, and champion. The Thursday Daily winner garnering an an average of 93.6 percent is Lalainne Araña.

For the face-off, Lalainne sang the powerpacked Aegis classic “Halik.” She really did let her whole heart out on the stage. Right after, defending champion Jehramae Triangia performed, “Stand Up for Love” by Destiny’s Child.

After the scores were tabulated, Tawag ng Tanghalan July 27 new champion is Lalainne Araña with a score of 93.4 percent.
