Tawag Ng Tanghalan June 30

POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG: Jovany Satera a.k.a Dj James Durian from Mindanao is TNT’s new defending champion. Today, on Tawag Ng Tanghalan July 4 episode, Jovany will face today’s daily winner and will try to get his second win. Yesterday, he overthrew ex-defending champion Manny Lucas who was on to his third win. Click here to read a recap of yesterday’s episode. Will Dj James’ voice earn him a second win? On a side note, today’s head judge is Mr. Energy himself, Gary Valenciano.

TNT July 4 Performances, daily winner, and champion

First contender, Mark Joseph Rante. Mark from Pasig City originally wanted to study at a music conservatory. His parents weren’t that agreeable to the idea so he took Computer Engineering instead. That doesn’t stop him from doing music. He joined a music organization in school, sings for their events, and sometimes records cover songs. Unfortunately, he had to sell his recording set up to help out with the needs of the family. Mark sang “Last Time” by Eric Benet which definitely showcased his cool jazzy voice.

“Smooth as butter,” says Judge Billy Crawford. He said he was really moved by Joseph’s performance. Judge Yeng, on the other hand, didn’t expect to hear a jazz tune from Joseph. She loved that particular element of surprise and loved his performance as well.

Second contender, Renato Pituc. This singer from Pampanga is driven by his faith. He takes the TNT stage singing one of Basil Valdez’s hit, “Muling Buksan Ang Puso,” hoping to make it as daily winner and hopefully donate a portion of what he will earn for his church. Renato works as a sales person for real estate but when he was younger, he also joins amateur singing contests. TNT is the biggest singing contest he’s been in.

Time for newbie TNT head judge Gary Valenciano to speak! Gary said Renato picked a very difficult song but said he was able to perform it well and said he was impressed.

Third contender, Charmie Rose Cepe. From Antique to Bulacan, Charmie brings her dream and her family with her. Charmie’s parents believe that their daughter has what it takes to win so they made the bold move of moving to Bulacan. Her father works as a repairman for home appliances and this is how they get by. Charmie hopes to break that and help out in the family by joining TNT. If she does make it, she also hopes to get her two siblings to Bulacan as well. Charmie sang “Patuloy Ang Pangarap” by Angeline Quinto.

While singing, the judges were trying to think if Charmie should get the gong or not. Judge Nyoy and Jaya said Charmie had the voice and the technique but lacked good breathing and was too nervous. Because of that, Charmie sang a few flat notes but thankfully didn’t push Gary to signal for the gong.

TNT July 4 daily winner, face-off, and champion. Three contenders and it is now down to one daily winner. Garnering an average score of 92.4 percent TNT July 4 daily winner is Mark Joseph Rante.

For the face-off, daily winner Mark sang a Gary V hit, “I Will Be Here.” Towards the middle of the song, Mark had to stop numerous times and the judges couldn’t figure out why. Defending champion Jovany Satera, on the other hand, sang “I Who Have Nothing” by Tom Jones.

Today’s champion garnering an average score of  93.6 percent is Jovany Satera. This is Jovany’s second win on the show.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan airs Mondays to Saturdays on ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime at noon.
