POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG/RECAP: Three straight wins for defending champion Joel Delalamon. And now, on Tawag Ng Tanghalan June 21 episode, he fights for his fourth win. Three contenders from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will fight to become today’s daily winner. Will Wednesday winner beat Joel in the face-off? Or will he be like Tuesday winner Joevarry Gigantone who didn’t succeed in overthrowing Joel? Click here to read a recap of yesterday’s episode.

TNT June 21 Performances, daily winner, and champion

First contender, Theresa Mateo. Theresa wants to use her love for singing and talent in hair and makeup to put up a house for her family someday. Aside from singing and doing hair and makeup on the side, she loves cooking and plans to take Hotel and Restaurant Management in college. Theresa sang an emotional rendition of “Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin” hoping to make an impression on the judges.

Judge Yeng Constantino was a bit skeptic just because of Theresa’s first note which could be because she was a bit nervous. Judge Billy had the same thing in mind. But they both said that towards the end of Theresa’s performance, she was able to showcase her powerful voice and overall it was ok.

Second contender, Maria Diana Agustin. “Maghintay Ka Lamang” was Maria’s piece for today. This singer from Laguna has high hopes for her sister, family, and herself. Being accelerated and a scholar in school, Maria plans to reach more through her talent. Singing and joining contests allows her to save for her sister’s tuition. This is her way of helping her father who works as a tricycle driver. She hopes that together, they can finish studies, have a better education, and have better lives.

Judge Rey Valera said he was a bit shocked to hear such a powerful voice coming from a 14-year-old. Soft and powerful were the two sides  Maria showed judge Rey in her singing. Rey said he liked them both.

Third contender, Edison Escarro. Edison is a fisherman since he was 25 years old and a kagawad in Bantayan Island in Cebu. He joined TNT because he wanted to encourage talented youth in his small and a bit isolated community to join contests like this. For him, there are a lot of young people who do have the talent but are just too shy to try. This is Edison’s first time to join a singing contest. For his performance, he sang “Gaano Kadalas And Minsan” by Basil Valdez. First time on stage but he certainly gave goosebumps to the judges who seem to enjoy his performance.

Inspiring and purpose driven were the words Judge Kyla used to describe Edison. She enjoyed his voice and said it had much emotion and feeling. The only thing Edison had to work on was a bit of timing. Judge Ogie agreed with Kyla and used “banayad” to describe his voice.

TNT June 21 daily winner, face-off, and champion. Who could be today’s daily winner? Theresa, Maria Diana, or Edison? Wednesday winner garnering an average score of 90.8 percent is contender from Luzon, Maria Diana Agustin. Maria Diana will face 3-time defending champion Joel Delalamon.

“When You Tell Me That You Love Me” was Diana’s piece for the face off. Joel, on the other hand, sang Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual.” Contemporary versus old school. Who wins this face-off?

Today’s champion got an average score of 91.6 percent. The judges have decided. The champion is–Maria Diana Agustin. This marks Maria’s first win. She will be on to getting her second win on Thursday, June 22.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan airs Mondays to Saturdays on It’s Showtime on ABS-CBN at noon.
