Tawag Ng Tanghalan April 17, Reign Basa

POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG/RECAP: Days after the Holy Week, Tawag Ng Tanghalan Kids continue on April 17 as new defending champion Nicoh Muñoz fights for his second win. In the last episode aired on April 11, 11-year-old Nicoh won over three other contenders with an average score of 91 percent singing “True Colors.” Click here to read a recap of April 11 episode.

First Contender, Xara Sings Whitney Houston Hit

First on stage was 12-year-old Xara Paulyn Waerness from Muntinlupa City. Xara is a soprano singer in their church choir and also a part of the school’s glee club. She’s very close to her grandfather who has a heart disease. If she wins this competition, she would like to donate to her church and buy her grandfather the meds that he needs. Xara sang Whitney Houston’s “Try It On My Own.”

On a side note, Xara’s mom and aunt were on the show. Her aunt sang some tunes and asked if she could sing with her idol, Jed Madela. They sang to the tune of “I Finally Found Someone.” Judge Karylle saw Xara’s confidence and the effort she put on her performance. Her only advice was to sing with more emotion. Judge Jed said Xara’s words were very clear and called her voice powerful yet controlled and pleasing to the ears.

2nd Contender, Reign sings Regine Velasquez Hit

Twelve-year-old Reign Curthney Basa from Pampanga was next. Reign is the favorite grandchild of her grandfathers on both sides since she’s the only girl. For today’s performance, Reign sang a very sweet performance of “Tanging Mahal” by Regine Velasquez.

Judge Louie Ocampo loved Reign’s confidence and voice tone quality. He called her low tones and high notes perfect and liked how she hit the notes well. Judge Louie was very happy with her performance and said he knows Reign has much more to offer.

3rd Contender, Taryl sings Your Love

Contender from Butuan City Taryl Clair Macato was the last contender. This 9-year-old loves doing karaoke, dancing, and playing badminton. She joined Tawag Ng Tanghalan to make her parents proud and of course to see her favorite artists. Taryl sang “Your Love” By Alamid. Taryl shed a tear after her performance and said it was tears of joy.

Judge Jaya wondered why Taryl cried at the end because she noticed how confident she was when she started. Jaya said Taryl owned the stage and at a young age, Jaya can already hear the potential of Taryl’s voice when she grows older. Judge Kayla loved the innocence in Taryl’s voice and hoped she chose a better song for her age.

After all three contenders, it was time to announce a daily winner for this episode. Monday winner garnering an average score of 94.8 percent is contender from Luzon, Reign Curthney Basa.

For the battles, Reign sang a flawless rendition of Fantasia’s “I Believe.” Defending champion Nicoh Muñoz, on the other hand, sang “Photograph” by Ed Sheeran.
