POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG/RECAP: Tawag Ng Tanghalan March 6 is the day everyone has been waiting for since it is Grand Finals Huling Tapatan Day 1. Mary Gidget Dela Llana, Maricel Callo, Marielle Montellano, Pauline Afupitan, Eumee Capuile, Noven Belleza, Carlmalone Montecido, Sam Mangubat, Rachel Grabreza and Froilan Canlas fight for the title of Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s grand champion this week.

On Saturday’s episode, Froilan Canlas and Rachel Gabreza were declared the two winners for the week long ultimate resbaker week. Click here to read a recap of Saturday’s episode.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan Grand Finals Day 1 performances

Five grand finalists will fight head to head today and five more tomorrow. The contenders scheduled today are Maricel Callo, Marielle Montellano, Noven Belleza, Car Malone Montecido and Rachel Gabreza. Scores will also be based on the text voters and hurados votes similar to the ultimate resbakers week long competition. Grand finalist who makes it from Monday to Friday will fight head to head for the title on Saturday.

Carl Malone Montecido Sings ‘Hanggang’

First on stage was Carl Malone Montecido. Carl visited his hometown, Bacolod City, to visit fans and his family. During his visit he was also able to give his hard-earned check to his father. He now comes back on stage stronger and more inspired thanks to his kababayans. Carl sings “Hanggang” by Wency Cornejo. Hurado Rey Valera and other hurados noticed that Carl struggled a bit with the timing of his song. It looked like Hurado Rey wanted to signal for the gong but hesitated when he saw Carl was able to do better.

Hurado Karylle said, “As always heartfelt.” She also said how beautiful his voice was most especially when he is about to reach his high vocal riffs.

Maricel Callo, Song Bird of Pagadian City

Maricel Callo was overwhelmed by the welcome of family, fans and supporters in Pagadian City. She is known as city’s Song bird. Maricel didn’t expect so many people to greet her during the welcome parade. During her visit, she performed a few songs for fans and was very happy to be joined by her family on stage singing with her. Maricel sang “Hanggang Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan” hitting the high note at the end which made the crowd cheer.

Hurado Erik Santos said he loved how Maricel utilizes her vocal phrasing, stance and how she outdid herself in her performance. “Dinala mo kame sa dulo ng walang hanggan” says hurado Erik.

Mandaue City’s Pride, Marielle Montellano

Marielle used to be part of a welcoming group at the airport. But when she came home to Cebu, she was the one being welcomed at the airport by the city’s tourism group. The mayor of Mandaue City himself even gave her a plaque of commendation. Another surprise was an appearance by Matteo Guidicelli . Marielle was also able to visit the place where she and her father met an accident back in 2010. For Marielle, this is her second life. For today’s competition, Marielle sang “Skyline Pigeon” by Elton John.

Punong hurado Rey Valera said he was so lucky and proud to hear Marielle singing now that this is her second life.

Noven Belleza Sings ‘Lupa’

Noven’s family prepared for his return. His family prepared his favorite meal and as soon as he touched down Negros Occidental, his family gave him a big hug. Noven was so happy and couldn’t explain how we felt when he saw how united his kababayans were in giving him a very warm welcome. Noven sang Rico Jay Puno’s “Lupa.”

Rachel Gabreza Visits Makati

Rachel was so happy to visit fans in Makati. She is known as Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s Sales Diva. So when she came home, she made sure to visit her co-workers. Rachel’s younger sibling became ill the last time she was on the show so having the time to visit her family was something big for her. Rachel’s family is her motivation on the show. She sings “Magsimula Ka” by Leo Valdez.

Hurado Karla Estrada was a bit nervous for Rachel from the get go because she started the song in a high pitch. Rachel said she had to give it her best since she was already having sore throat and was losing her voice. Hurado Karla said she didn’t have to worry because she finished strong.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan, How to vote

Today, there will be one contender who will be chosen and automatically he or she will become one of those who will compete for the title on Saturday. The hurados are not the only one who can judge ultimate resbaker’s performances. Fans could also vote for their favorite performers by simply texting TAWAG plus the name of their favorite semi-finalist (i.e TAWAG JULIA) and send to 2366. Voting lines are officially closed as of 3:20 p.m.

Checked and verified by ABS-CBN internal audit, the graph showed the total number of votes from the madlang people and hurados as follows: 96.20 percent. 75.14 percent, 61.11 percent, 60.06 percent and 59.47 percent.

The first spot for the Grand Finals goes to– Noven Belleza. Noven will be back on Saturday to compete for the title. Tawag Ng Tanghalan Grand Finals will be at Resorts World Manila.
