POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG/RECAP: Tawag Ng Tanghalan sa Showtime March 8 is Huling Tapatan Day 3. Carl Malone Montecido, Maricel Callo, Pauline Agupitan and Rachel Gabreza are the finalists set to fight for a spot on TNT’s Top 5. Whoever makes it today will battle for the title on Saturday, March 11 at Resorts World Manila. Who will be the third grand finalist?

Noven Belleza is the first Grand Finalist to make it to the Top 5. On yesterday’s episode, Froilan Canlas secured his spot singing a unique and powerful rendition of the song Anak by Freddie Aguilar. Click here to read a recap of yesterday’s episode. 

Vina Morales on Tawag Ng Tanghalan

On a side note, Vina Morales, Shaina Magdayao’s sister, graced today’s show and sang Lagay Ng Puso. Vina promoted her upcoming show on Kapag Nasa Katwiran, Ipaglaban Mo on Saturday and her album Vina 30 out in stores.

While Vina was on the show, hurado Rey Valera asked her to sing the famous hit Pangako, which was composed by hurado Rey himself.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan Huling Tapatan Day 3 Performances

Four finalists will be performing on today’s show. Total scores based on the texts and hurados’ votes will reveal the winner of today and will be named the third finalist. Voting lines will be opened after the finalists performances and will be closed at the signal of the hosts.

Rachel Gabreza sings Aretha Franklin’s Respect

Rachel’s neighbor, Mang Ador, and friends from Makati were live via streaming on the show. Rachel said that whenever she and her family need help, they would always run to her neighbor. Mang Ador asked Vice to tell Rachel that he and everyone else in Makati were praying for her.

Aretha Franklin’s hit Respect was Rachel’s contest piece today. Armed with a powerful growl and voice in a bright yellow gown, she sang her heart out hoping to get that spot today. “You have my respect” says hurado Mitoy.  He knew how easy it was for Rachel to produce powerful notes but advised her to relax even if the song demanded power.

Carl Malone Montecido Sings Estudyante Blues

Carl Malone’s friends and relatives from Bacolod City were also live via streaming represented by barangay captain Reymart Salga. A crowd of people were seen via live stream. A loud cheer could be heard in the background. Barangay captain Salga spoke on behalf of the crowd and said, “Win or lose you’ll always be a winner to us.”

Carl came in singing a more upbeat song this time. He brought out his rocker vibe singing Estudyante Blues by Freddie Aguilar. Hurado Karla said she was entertained all through out his performance. Teary eyed, Karla said she hoped people could see and appreciate his talent.

Pauline Agupitan Sings Tina Turner hit

Batangenos showed support for Pauline Agupitan together with members of the community represented by the Councilor in Lipa via live stream. They said they were praying for Pauline’s success on the show.

Pauline braved the song Rolling on the River by Tina Turner. Complete with a bad ass voice and outfit, Pauline gave her all singing a high energy song which the hurados seem to enjoy a lot. Indeed they did, hurados gave Pauline a standing ovation for her bad ass performance. Hurado Billy Crawford said “Ibang klase ang pinakita mo sa amin.” He added, “You deserve to win.”

Maricel Callo Sings Gold

Assistant Principal Esterlina Catungal of St. Columban College from Pagadian City represented the crowd of supporters of Maricel who were live via streaming. “We are very proud of you, you are our Super Maricel” says Ms. Esterlina.

Maricel opened the song Gold by Spandau Ballet sitting on what looks like her throne wearing of course, a gold top with a flowing yellow trail. A powerful and dramatic performance indeed. Hurado Yeng says Maricel’s voice had a natural rock vibe. “Bilib ako sa’yo” says Yeng.

Before voting lines were opened, hurado Rey Valera gave a few words. He said the finalists’ fame and influence come with great responsibility so they have to use it wisely.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan, How To Vote

Today, one contender will be chosen. Automatically, he or she will become one of those who will compete for the title on Saturday. The hurados are not the only ones who can judge the grand finalists’ performances. Fans can also vote for their favorite performers by simply texting TAWAG plus the name of their favorite semi-finalist (e.g. TAWAG MARICEL) and send to 2366. Voting lines are closed as of 2:55 p.m., March 8.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan March 8 Winner, Third Grand Finalist

Checked and verified by ABS-CBN internal audit, the graph of the final average score showed the total number of votes from the madlang people and hurados as follows: 91.40 percent, 76.20 percent, 64.68 percent and 62.09 percent.

The third spot for the grand finals joining Noven Belleza and Froilan Canlas goes to– Carl Malone Montecido.
