Results from Tawag ng Tanghalan sa Showtime October 12 episode revealed Hazelyn Cascaño as the first semi-finalist for Quarter 4. Recently, Eumee Capile and Novel Belleza added to the roster of semi-finalists. Two more slots are empty, who will be the last two to complete the eight grand finalists? Representing Luzon, daily challenger Ramiro Cruz took the stage. The 52-year-old teacher from Bulacan sang “Panata.” He has a daughter but lost his wife to breast cancer. Ramiro sings at resto-bars and events, and thought of joining Tawag ng Tanghalan to share his talent.

Hurado Nyoy Volante was pleased at how he was able to give such an emotional performance but advised Ramiro to choose a more powerful song if given the chance to sing again. Hurado Rico Jay Puno on the other hand said he was proud because his modulation was above par. He went on to say, “pro (professional) ka na.”

Next on stage was lolo’s girl on fire from Cebu, Jamaica Bumidang. She sang Aegis’ version of “Hesus.” As Jamaica sang the first few notes, it was noticeable that her voice was a bit shaky.

Unfortunately, Jamaica wasn’t able to give a performance that pleased the ears of the judges. ‘Gongsilor’ Jhong had to sound the gong. Jamaica was automatically out of the competition.

Last contender for the day was ‘resbaker’ from General Santos City, Roberto Conjurado. Roberto is the manager of his own daughter who also wants to make it as a singer. The tatay-manager sang Tom Jones’, “Why Can’t I Cry.”

Hurados Mitoy and Rey Valera weren’t so much impressed because of some notes that he wasn’t able to hit. Rey said, “Mabuti hindi ako trigger happy ngayon.”Karylle felt the same and said that it was understandable because the song’s level of difficulty was a bit too high. She also commented on the clarity of his words while singing.

With an average score of 90.6 percent, October 13 daily winner is contender from Luzon, Ramiro Cruz. To battle 5-time defending champion Hazelyn Cascaño, Ramiro Cruz sang “Minsan Ang Minahal ay Ako” by Celeste Legaspi. There were some parts of the song that were a bit shady, but overall an emotional performance.Hazelyn took on the challenge and sang a powerful performance of the song “I Miss You Like Crazy.”

With an average score of 91.4 percent, Hazelyn Cascaño still won the battle.
