Tawag Ng Tanghalan on ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime is now on the second day of the regular edition quarter one week-long semi finals. Results of the partial and unofficial votes from August 7 were revealed on TNT’s August 8 episode and fans are just surprised to see John Mark Saga from Cavite in the bottom two. Semi-finalist Alfred Relatado was next to John in the bottom two, results show.

John Mark is a theater singer and performer and was hesitant at first to join TNT. He always thought that he was never good enough. Thanks to his mom, he had the confidence to finally join. John Mark Saga first sang on the TNT stage and became defending champion on June 12. He got his fifth win and became semi-finalist on June 16.

Here’s a quick look at what he sang on each day up until he became a semi-finalist. On June 13, John sang “I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. “Hello” by Adele on June 14, “Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin” by Lani Misalucha on June 15, and “Somewhere” by Barbra Streisand on June 16. He chose to move on with the competition until Joel Delalamon took his place as defending champion on June 17.

Twitterverse fights  for John Mark Saga

John Mark is a theater singer and performer. During his first performance on June 12, he sang, “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith. And since then, he captivated the hearts of many and of course the judges. Watching John Mark’s performance via ABS-CBN, one would see head judge Rey Valera smiling while watching John sing as if he was in awe.

During the first day of Quarter 1 semifinals on August 7, John sang the same song. All the judges stood up to give him a standing ovation. Vice Ganda was even quoted to say next to Sam Smith, his version was the best. Judge Billy Crawford also said that when it came to singing, he was as good as the international singer. Judge Yeng was also in awe of his performance.

With all these over the top comments and received a standing ovation from judges, fans on Twitter were surprised to see the results of the combined judges and text votes from August 7. John Mark Saga immediately became trending on Twitter after the announcement of the results on August 8.

One fan tweeted, “I can’t believe John Mark Saga would be part of the bottom 2. Come on guys, let’s not waste such talent like his.” Another fan felt the same way and encouraged others to vote for John. Another just felt surprised saying if John was in the bottom two, it only means all the contenders are great. One fan also said that John doesn’t deserve to be in the bottom two. He also said text votes were unfair considering his talent. More tweets show support for John Mark Saga.

On Tawag Ng Tanghalan August 8 episode, John Mark Saga sang “Because You Love Me” by Celine Dion which he dedicated to his family. He got another standing ovation from the judges. Judge Rey said he was technically a really good singer and stressed “really” many times for emphasis. And in case you didn’t know, judge Rey Valera is one hard judge to please.
