Paolo stole the hearts of the judges and the audience when he sang the first few notes of “Forevermore” by OPM band Side A. Click here to read a recap of yesterday’s episode. Will Paolo continue to the win the hearts of TNT, or will we have a new champion today? Tawag ng Tanghalan Sept 20 performances, daily winner, and champion Mari Mar Parayao from Pampanga sings “Saan Ka Man Naroroon” by Pilita Corales. Singing is not just a passion for Mari Mar, but a way for her to provide for her family. Her father used to work as a farmer but stopped to take care of Mari Mar’s other siblings. Her mom, on the other hand, manages a sari sari store. This 21-year-old singer performs with her tito in bars, restaurants and for events. Together they are called, The Promises. Mari chose a Pilita Corales song and said she is an advocate of the OPM songs. The judges seem to enjoy her performance as they were seen swaying to the tunes of Mari’s voice and song. Judge Kyla called her very pleasing on stage. She said she didn’t expect a deep voice from such a sweet girl and for her that was refreshing. She said she was charmed by Mari’s performance. Judge Mitoy said he was impressed and loved how she advocates old OPM artists and songs. Reigelle Eva Maglajos from Bohol sings “New York, New York” by Liza Minelli. Reigelle is a Grade 12 achiever and a jack of all trades. She’s into sports, loves dancing and of course, singing. She’s been joining singing contests since she was Grade 3 and now takes a bigger stage hoping to bring her closer to her dream: become a famous singer. Head Judge Rey Valera noticed Reigelle had difficulty with the lower notes of the song. But, he was still amazed at how contenders today chose and performed old songs so it was still a plus for Reigelle. Jay-R Vano from South Cotabato sings Az Yet’s version of “Hard To Say I’m Sorry.” Jay-R used to belong to a band but unfortunately they had to part ways because of some differences. Joining TNT is a fresh start for him so he had to go to Manila just to go and pursue his dream. Jay-R takes the TNT stage hoping that he gets his big break. This would mean so much to his parents most especially to his father who is a retired soldier. Judge Jaya mentioned Jay-R had the makings of a singer/performer but thought he was a bit nervous for this particular performance. But towards the second half of his song, he was able to show them what he’s got. She things pop and rock were more of his style. Judge Erik Santos thought the huskiness of his voice added points to Jay-R’s performance but said he was waiting for a bit of creativity. But all in all, voice quality was good. Tawag Ng Tanghalan Sept 20 daily winner, face-off, and champion. Wednesday daily winner is contender from Pampanga, Mari Mar Parayao. Mari Mar will face new defending champion Paolo Anternorcruz. Mari Mar took on another Pilita Corales hit singing “Dahil Sa’yo,” challenging Paolo during the face-off. New defending champion Paolo, on the other hand, sang “Hanggang Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan” by Basil Valdez. Judge Rey was impressed by Mari and was also impressed by Paolo’s performance giving a standing ovation to the latter. Who wins this battle? Before the announcement, judge Rey expressed how difficult it was for the judges to make a decision. He said whoever didn’t make it should come back.
