POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG: Semi-finalist Anton Antenorcruz proves to be unbeatable as he won over yesterday’s daily winner, Evelyn Cinco. Anton won with an average score of 94 percent singing Martin Nievera’s “Say That You Love Me.” Click here to read a recap of yesterday’s episode. On Tawag Ng Tanghalan Sept 26 episode, Anton goes on and fights for his seventh win which takes him closer to becoming TNT’s Hall of Famer. Will Anton get his seventh win? Or will he meet his match?

Tawag Ng Tanghalan Sept 26 contenders, daily winner, and champion

The first contender from Luzon is from Binangonan. Rennie Vargas is currently a member of an active band, where he plays the drums and sings as a backup vocalist. He says he started out as a young choir member in a church choir at the age of 10 years. He also tells the story of how he learned to play the drums even if his left hand was injured after a firework accident when he was only 12 years old. When asked why he joined, he says he wants to fulfill his dreams as a singer.

He comes on stage and sings an OPM standard, Minsan. The first jurado who gave his comment was Ogie who enjoyed his performance. He said that Rennie not only sang with his voice but also with his heart and he wishes him well in his singing. Erik Santos said his voice was beautiful and was impressed with how such a good storyteller he was. He also commented on how great is his energy on stage.


Rochelle Montebon is the next contender from the Visayas, from the province of Leyte. This call center agent works at day, but performs at night. She also has a YouTube channel where she sings Visayan songs translated in Filipino, as well as a channel through an app where she has over 100 followers. According to her, she is a resbaker, having joined TNT last year.

This time, she picks a song closer to her heart, My Heart by Paramore. Punong jurado Rey Valera was the first to comment and he admits that this was his first time to hear the song. He then starts to give his tips on making it in competitions like this, such as planning her whole performance

The final contender is Antonio Richard Ng, Jr. from Davao, Mindanao. He currently drives a tricycle and has a sideline business of making decals for vehicles. He says that he is going back to singing because his kids want to hear him sing once again. He wants to try his luck in this career to give his kids a better future.

He chooses All Is Fair In Love as his performance. Jed Maddela called his performance unexpected – he was expecting to hear a rocker but instead heard a suave singer. Kaye Brosas says that it was obvious that he was so comfortable with the song and also commend his suave voice.

After deliberation of the judges, today’s daily winner with a score of 94.4% was Rennie Vargas of Luzon.

Daily Winner Rennie And Defending Champion Anton Face Off

Rennie Vargas chooses another OPM song, Peksman, as his song to face off with the defending champion. Anton Antenorcruz answers back with a heart rending version of Angels Brought Me Here. Despite the differences in styles, it’s clear that both singers showed a lot of heart in their performances.

When the jurados finished deliberating, the hosts announced a new champion, Rennie Vargas who got an average score of 93.8%. Anton ends his run, but will be coming back for the semifinals.
