Contender from Bulacan, Katrine Sunga sings “Tila” by Lani Misalucha. Katrine is on her eighth year at the UST conservatory of music. While studying, she teaches voice and piano. Next to singing, Katrine loves book and she hopes that she that one day she could put up her own library. She takes the TNT stage for herself and her mom hoping that she wins and gives her mom what she needs to put up a small business.

Judge K Brosas loved Katrine’s song choice and everything about her performance. She loved the fact that she didn’t sound like Lani instead gave it her own twist. Judge Billy Crawford, on the other hand, liked Katrine’s soft tones and falsetto and said she was lit!

Contender from Negros Occidental, Luke Vargas sings Josh Groban’s “To Where You Are.” Luke is the son of two farmers. Life was difficult but with the additional help of his grandmother, he was able to finish college. His mom encouraged him to sing and it was because of that that Luke started dreaming big for himself. He hopes joining TNT would get him the break he needs to give a better life for his family. Luke is now a free lance singer and a voice coach.

Head judge Gary Valenciano said Luke had good voice quality but gave him a few tips. He said Luke should look for the voice that would truly show his identity and not any other singer.

Contender from Digos City, Paulino Cirunay Jr. sings “Without Love” by Tom Jones. Paulino is one who went through a tough life. He had to stop school at an early age and help his father harvest coconuts to get by. It was during those times that he turned to music which served as his inspiration. Paulino joined singing contests since he was 15 years old. Now, he takes the TNT stage with his family as his motivation.

Judge Jaya said it was difficult to sing Tom Jones’ song but she was impressed that Paulino was able to sing it well. Judge Louie Ocampo loved everything about Paulino’s performance. His voice, his stance on stage, and basically everything about him.

For the face-off, Paulino sang “Lies” by Teddy Randazo while four-time defending champion Mark Michael Garcia sang “I Swear” by All for One. Will Mark win this battle?

Tawag Ng Tanghalan Sept 5 champion garnering an average score of 94 percent is Mark Michael Garcia. This is Mark’s fifth win on the show which automatically takes him to the semifinals. Mark chose to go on with the competition as defending champion.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan airs Mondays to Saturdays on ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime at noon.
