Foam Party Electrocution Kills Thai Woman

Songkran Festival, April 105

A Thai woman dies of electrocution in a foam party on Wednesday, April 12, in Udon Thano, Thailand during the Songkran festival. The most tragic part was it happened days before she and her husband were about to move to the UK to start a new life together.

A report by Daily Mail identifies the woman as Supaporn Beddoes. She was 25 years old and was married to a British man named Michael Beddoes who is a painter and decorator. The young woman joined the Songkran foam party in Baan Dung until around 11 p.m.

The Songkran Foam Party is one of the biggest festivals in Thailand where people local and abroad join in. This year’s foam party happened on April 13-15 and started at noon. Certain areas are designated for the party and people dance and play in a “pool” of foam and of course water while listening to music played by a DJ. It is free and anyone can join in.

Thai woman’s death caused by damaged wires

Daily Mail said powerful spotlights melted these wires lying in liquid causing a surge of electricity and hit Supaporn in front of other people. A report by MSN said Supaporn’s mother Duangchai Saengchart, said that the event organizer used damaged wires during the foam party which then caused this tragedy. The report further said that Baan Dung police have collected evidence and will charge the event organizers for their negligence which caused the death of Supaporn.

The organizers paid THB 20,000 (around P 30,000) only for the damages caused and said that they didn’t have any money left to give.

Supaporn Beddoes is the breadwinner of the family. She and her husband Michael were married for six years. After the tragic death of Supaporn, her husband Michael posted on Facebook and said, “I miss her so much. Will be in my heart forever. RIP, teerak (darling).”
