The Amazing Race Asia Season 5 Dec 1 Recap: 5 Teams Left, Who Will Be Eliminated Next?

POPCORN TIME (LIVE BLOG) RECAP: The Amazing Race Asia Season 5 is entering its final set of legs as tonight the teams travel from Singapore to Indonesia. As previously reported, the rest of the race will be spent in Indonesia, with the final checkpoint in the island of Bali, Indonesia. 

Two Filipino Teams Still In the Running

According to an earlier Pilipinas Popcorn article, two Filipino teams are taking part in the adventure race around Asia. In tonight’s episode, both teams are still in the running, after husband and wife team Eric and Rona were lucky enough to be the last team during a non-elimination leg in the previous episode.

Singapore to Yogyakarta

The remaining five teams need to travel from Singapore to Yogyakarta in Central Java, Indonesia, where they will find their next clue in Jomblang Cave. They all flew on the same flight to Jakarta. Upon arriving in Jakarta however, the race began again. The Indonesian team of Treasuri and Louisa jostled everyone at the taxi coupon stand, securing one ticket for them. Since the Singaporean team was trying to get tickets for everybody, this did not sit well with JK.

While the four teams went to the cave, Eric and Rona had to complete their speed bump. This involved going to a herbal medicine seller and drink a concoction while blindfolded. They need to guess which medicine was used and after they were able to guess which plant was used, they can proceed to the cave.

#AXNTARA Jomblang Cave – Road Block

At Jomblang Cave, a Roadblock: Walk the Line waited for each team. One member must walk a tightrope on top of Jomblang Cave, retrieve the clue from the ladder, and walk the tightrope again. If they drop their clue, they need to do it all again, or receive a 2 hour penalty.

Two teams at the time can do the task. First up are JK of Team Singapore and Treasuri of Team Indonesia. While maneuvering the tightrope, JK almost got into a word fight with Treasuri after what happened at the taxi stand. Good thing their team mates were calmer and stopped them from getting into it.

First off the rope was Treasuri. JK was still climbing up the rope ladder when she got off. Parul was next up when Treasuri left. While Parul was on the line however, JK was not able to reach the end of the rope and fell off it. Because of this, JK gave up and told his partner Mike that he could not do it. As Parul was finishing the task, Yvonne took to the rope. Eric was also on the line but Yvonne got off first.

#AXNTARA Another Road Block at Prambanan Temple

In the meantime, Treasuri and Louisa reach the temple. Another roadblock await the teams. This time around, one member needed to go to the temple and memorize the names and designations of Hindu deities. After which, they needed to recreate the names and arrangement of the deities in a small map. When a judge sees that what they did was correct, they will get their next clue.

The Indonesian team passed through this phase quickly, moving them to the next task. Following them is Parul and Maggie, who despite Parul’s knowledge of Hindu, did not get it right the first time. As Parul was correcting their map, Yvonne, Chloe, Eric, Rona arrived.

The next to finish much to their surprise is Eric and Rona, after Rona finished the roadblock. This left the two beauty queen teams still struggling with the roadblock. They eventually finished so they moved to the next phase. The last team to finish this roadblock was the Singaporean team. Mike was able to get the deities correct as it was getting dark.

#AXNTARA Javanese Archery

The next task is for the teams to hit one target each using a traditional Javanese archery technique. Being the first team on task, Treasuri and Louisa finished after a few attempts. They said that it looked easier that it seemed.

Parul and Maggie also struggled in this phase. Parul who was already weak from the previous roadblock could not hit the target. As she was working on it, Yvonne and Chloe were trying to finish as well. Parul however took a deep breath after which she was able to hit the target.

The Pit Stop @ Ngalem Ngabean

In the meantime, the Indonesian team reached the next stage of the leg. It was located in Alun Alun Selatan where teams need to ride a cycle-powered vehicle called an odong-odong. They have to take along two willing bystanders to help them. After two rounds on the odong-odong, they will receive instructions on where the pit stop is.

As expected, Treasuri and Louisa were first to arrive, followed by Eric and Rona who made quite a comeback after the previous leg. The other Filipino team followed them. The fourth team to arrive was Yvonne and Chloe, who could not find a cab to Alun Alun Selatan.

JK and Mike amazingly caught up with Yvonne and Chloe in Alun Alun. While they were head to head in finishing the two rounds on the odong-odong, JK and Mike made the mistake of not asking for proper directions. After getting lost, they were last to arrive on the mat. eliminating them from the race.
