But sometimes, these transformations are a little more intense than you might expect. The Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway’s dramatic body changes are the stuff of Hollywood legend – and there have been an awful lot of them. Here, we tell you about the three roles in which she underwent the most radical changes. 1. Fantine in “Les Miserables” Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for playing Fantine in the 2012 big-screen adaptation of Les Misérables. But before standing on stage holding that golden trophy and looking like a princess, Hathaway admitted in a Vogue interview that she went to extremes that were ‘a little nuts.’ To portray the young orphan, Hathaway went on a strict cleanse and lost a total of 25 pounds. Hathaway reveals in PEOPLE’s cover story that the weight loss was due to anxiety. She nearly starved herself, only eating two squares of dried oatmeal paste per day. This is to visually reinforce the fish-out-of-water atmosphere that her character experiences in the cut-throat, weight-obsessed world of the fashion industry. Hathaway happily obliged, scarfing down ice cream, beer, and pizza. However, when Andy transformed into a Runway girl, costume designer Patricia Field advised her to “lose 10 pounds” in order to “fit into couture.” According to Hathaway, the entire process took about three months. According to Shape, she followed an almost vegan diet while preparing to play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. Hathaway’s main challenge was keeping her protein levels high enough to build muscle during intense training sessions while remaining toned and slim. “I went into the gym for 10 months and didn’t come out.” Hathaway said in an ABC News interview. Surprisingly she has been a strong advocate and example of how that mentality manifests itself. Facebook Comments
