Game journalist Geoff Keighly delivered on his promise to rival the Oscars with The Game Awards 2017. The annual celebration of interactive digital entertainment was a massive success with celebrity guest announcers and presenters. Nintendo stole the spotlight, with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild winning Game of the Year and two other awards. Meanwhile, several studios also announced upcoming games and films for 2018. The Game Awards 2017 Biggest Announcements and Trailers
- Bayonetta 3 Announcements — Nintendo was clearly unsatisfied with winning awards in multiple categories. The gaming industry giant announced that cult classic Bayonetta as well as its sequel will be coming to Nintendo Switch. In addition, Bayonetta 3 was announced to be a Switch exclusive.
- Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima Team Up — Video game industry legend Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill) and ace horror director Guillermo del Toro (The Exorcist) released a trailer for an in-development project called Death Stranding. The game represents a shift in direction away from Silent Hill after the creative minds had a falling out with publisher Konami in 2015.
- New Soul Calibur Title — Bandai Namco revealed gameplay teasers for Soul Calibur 6, which will be released in 2018. The upcoming title will be the first game under the Soul Calibur IP since 2012, and will be available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. New combat mechanics and visual aesthetics were showcased as well.
