The October Popcorn Mixtape: 12 Songs You Should Be Listening To Right Now

#ThePopcornMixtape

Are you tired of listening to the same batch of songs over and over again? Maybe it’s time to freshen it up a bit? Most of the time, people often stick to one genre that they normally listen to. I used to do that. But in my years of being in the radio industry, I’ve come to a position where all genres matter. That’s why we’re dropping a monthly mixtape of certified fresh tracks that you can listen to, no matter where you are and how you are feeling. Presenting, #ThePopcornMixtape!

Kids – One Republic

This song made me realize that being too nostalgic can be toxic. In order for you to push forward, you need to have a healthy balance of nostalgia and optimism for what’s to come. As this song says, “I refuse to look back thinking days were better just because they’re younger days.”

Betty – Brooke Fraser

Now THIS is a perfect pick me up track. If you feel like everything just doesn’t make sense, or when you’re feeling the worst week yet, let this song take you to that level of optimism and positivity that you need. We’ve all been there, and Brooke Fraser has DEFINITELY been there too.

Committed – Matt Wertz

If you’ve felt frustrated over someone before because of unrequited love, or just that this person was too dense to know what you’re feeling, blast this song up high and stand proud as the message of the song gives you that confidence (and probably a brick-shattering message stating your commitment).

Don’t Know Your Name – Mating Ritual

Walked into a bar last night and met someone cute? Of course you did. I know you probably talked and had an exchange of numbers. The only catch: you forgot to ask what the person’s name was. Play this on full-blast while he/she texts back and maybe try to figure out how to ask that person’s name. For real this time.

Right Where You Left Me – Perlo

You come home from a stressful day at work or school. You slouch on the sofa and put some music on. This song comes on. You’re energized. You’re back to feeling great. Right where you left it this morning.

Obsessive – Chase Atlantic

Focus. Determination. You need these especially if you’re working late at night. Play this track and you’ll find yourself working like a worker bee, probably obsessed with what you’re doing until you don’t even feel like you’re working.

Gising – Autotelic

From one of the best Pinoy Indie bands yet, comes their first single that’s full of explosive synths and good riffs. Listen to this when you wake up and you’ll be awake more than the normal average person (don’t know how that’s supposed to happen but I feel it).

Lying To You – Goldroom

As much as we hate to say those white lies, sometimes we just can’t. This song perfectly captures that frustration, with techno-indie feel that could leave you wanting for more (not lies, okay? That would be problematic for all of us).

Cherry Street – The Icarus Account

Grab an ice cream and sit back. Plug your earphones in and relax. Ahhh yes. There’s something about cherries that always makes us smile and feel good right?

SOS (Overboard) – Joseph

If you’re feeling drained and physically spent, maybe this song could save you and help you keep your head above water. Don’t worry, it’s gonna be okay.

IWD4U – Hotel Apache

Originally performed by Prince, this tribute cover by Hotel Apache captures everything you need to have a feel-good pop song. Featuring new synth drops to an old but timeless song, you’d definitely die for this track’s feelings.

Clear – Pusher ft. Mothica

Everybody needs their doses of clarity. Get this one straight into your phone and you’ll be amazed at how bright and transparent the world is. Hey, this is not a trippy song, but once you get deep into it, there’s no turning back.
