The Voice Season 12 kicked off this week with three (not just two) episodes of blind auditions. The three-episode premiere saw a lot of young and powerful singers performing, and eventually choosing their coaches. So far, Team Alicia has the most number of great artists in its roster, bagging two of the youngest contestants so far.
The Voice Season 12 Youngest Contestants So Far
This season, the show decided to lower its minimum age limit so this time around, younger singers were auditioning. On Feb. 27, 16-year old Anatalia Villaranda, from Temecula, California turned all four judges with her energetic rendition of Bruno Mars’ Runaway Baby. This hyper teen chose Alicia Keys as her coach.
On the Feb. 28 blind auditions night, another two teenagers joined the roster of contestants. First up was 15-year old Aliyah Moulden who managed to turn three judges (Alicia, Blake, Gwen) out of four. She sang a different rendition of Hound Dog which impressed the judges. Most people thought she was going to pick either Alicia or Gwen but surprisingly, she picked Blake.
Savannah Leighton, 16 years old, performed Katy Perry’s Unconditionally. Despite her pitch issues, she got Gwen and Blake to turn for her. After her performance, she started crying, then Gwen came on stage to give her a hug, acknowledging that she was nervous. Team Gwen snagged its first young singer.
On the third blind auditions night aired March 2, the show’s youngest contestant at 13 years old wowed Gwen and Alicia. Quizz Swanigan from Arizona sang a Jackson 5 song Who’s Lovin’ You, which suited him. Alicia noted however that beyond his innocent and fresh voice, he also had a lot of talent. With his family on stage, he chooses Alicia as his coach.
The Voice Season 12 Team Roster As of March 2
After this week’s premiere, both Alicia’s and Blake’s team have snagged five members each. One report also noted that Team Alicia has the most powerful singers so far in the season. Blake’s team includes singers with country influences, except for Aliyah Moulden.
Gwen Stefani has her hands full with an eclectic set of four singers so far. JChosen, who impressed all the judges with his Marvin Gaye performance, is part of Gwen’s team. Team Adam also has four members so far, including singer and guitar-player extraordinaire Jesse Larson.
