ZX Spectrum Vega+ Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Most modern gamers might not recognize the name “ZX Spectrum,” but between 1982 to 1992, it was one of the first mainstream plug-and-play gaming consoles. It sold over 5,000,000 units, has over 24,000 available titles, and interestingly enough, new titles continue to be released for this classic system. Naturally, the ZX Spectrum is a big fan favorite among retro gamers worldwide, and it seems a company called Retro Computers has got the world excited for the upcoming release of the ZX Spectrum “Vega+” just in time for Christmas. ZX Spectrum Vega features Spectrum Vega concept image by Retro Computers Ltd via official IndiGoGo campaign page (screenshot) The Vega+ is set to be the world’s first handheld gaming device with 1,000 built-in titles. It is an 8-bit console that can be connected to any television set to play true retro-style. Additional titles can be downloaded for free from any retro game site as well, and a micro SD card slot allows players to bring virtually every one of the 24,000 titles with them anywhere they go. The Vega+ has a very sleek and lightweight design with an 4:3 aspect ratio LCD screen that gives it a visual feel similar to the GameBoy Advance, or even the PlayStation Portable, but with a much slimmer body. Battery life on the unit is expected to last at east six hours. ZX Spectrum Vega Release Date During one of the most successful campaigns on the fundraiser site IndieGoGo, Retro Computers managed to shatter their target amount of £100,000.00 with a staggering £445,705.00. They have since announced the official release date of October 20, 2016. Of course, that is the release date in the United Kingdom, as it is where Retro Computers is located in the first place. Ordering upon release day, or waiting for the international release is likely to get you your own unit by around December this year. Like I said: just in time for Christmas. The funding for the Vega+ has officially ended, but interested parties can still pledge on the project’s IndieGoGo page. Pledging £100.00 nets you a sleek black Spectrum Vega+. The alternate white, red, and blue units are limited edition and no longer available, but I’d rather have the classic black any day. Facebook Comments
