Share on Facebook Share on Twitter In a bid to improve attendance and ticket sales, Tokyo Disneyland has announced new attractions coming to the theme park by 2020. This includes a Beauty and The Beast area, a new restaurant and a live entertainment center. According to the Disney Parks website, the 4.7-hectare area will also include a new theme park ride featuring Big Hero 6 and a popcorn specialty shop. The Beauty and the Beast attraction will be featuring a replica of the Beast’s castle. Time For An Upgrade For Tokyo Disneyland The announcement comes as the theme park has been experiencing dismal attendance reports, according to Theme Park Insider. Oriental Land Co., the company that operates the park has allocated a whopping 75 billion Yen or approximately 677 million US Dollars for the expansion. Tokyo Disneyland first opened its doors to the public in 1983. It is the first Disneyland theme park constructed outside of the United States. Its construction is similar to the style of Disneyland parks in Florida and in California. Since its opening, it has done well in terms of visitor numbers, mainly because it is centrally located and easily accessible in Tokyo. The new attractions will open in the spring of 2020, the same year when Tokyo will be hosting the Summer Olympics. It will be located between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, which is where the old Grand Circuit Raceway ride is currently found. Tokyo Disneyland And Its Competition Gone are the days when Tokyo Disneyland is the only theme park that tourists can visit in Japan. The park has been facing stiff competition with the opening of other theme parks such as Universal Studios Japan in Osaka and more recently, Legoland Nagoya. Universal Studios Japan will open its Super Nintendo World also in 2020. Legoland Nagoya, on the other hand, is the first outdoor Legoland park in the country. Set in the coastal city of Nagoya, it also offers marine attractions such as a submarine tour and a giant fish tank.
