Gong Yoo

Zombie thriller “Train To Busan” produced by Seoul based Next Entertainment World (NEW) is South Korea’s first zombie blockbuster. The movie has hit $ 10 million locally and has reached $100 million it the global box office in September. With the movie’s success, reports of “Train to Busan 2” has been circulating. First question is, will superstar Gong Yoo still be in it?

Actor Gong Yoo on ‘Train To Busan 2’

Director Sang-ho has had reservations regarding a Zombie franchise. But lead actor Gong Yoo tells Indie Wire that he hopes to have a continuation to the surprise hit movie. He even suggested a story line where his character, Seok Woo, would live somewhere as a zombie.

Gong Yoo told press that Director Sang-ho said when Seok Woo fell off the train, he broke his neck and died. There are no confirmations yet from NEW on whether or not “Train to Busan 2” is a go or if the original lead actors will be in the sequel for that matter. In a report, NEW said, “It’s unfounded rumor, there isn’t anything coming in and out yet on what kind of story “Train to Busan 2″ is about. We have no idea why this kind of report is coming out.”

‘Train to Busan 2’ with 20th Century Fox or Sony Pictures?

While ‘Train to Busan 2’ is a shady matter, the Hollywood Reporter says the zombie thriller ‘Train To Busan’ started a bidding war for its remake rights with 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures and even from France’s biggest studios like Gaumont, Canal Plus and EuropaCorp. Report says NEW’s international rights division, Content Panda said, “There has been a lot of interest since the film received positive reviews at the Cannes Film Festival in May. It is currently doing very well in the local box office, so we are in no rush to make deals right away.”

Other reports say that since rights may be bought by biggest studios, ‘Train to Busan’ sequel might be made by the winning bidder. This could mean that original lead actors might not be in the sequel, but director is rumored to be pushing at least for Gong Yoo to appear.
