Tropical Depression Kiko To Bring Moderate To Heavy Rains In Northern Luzon

Update, 11:00 a.m., Sep.5: According to PAGASA’s live update, tropical depression Kiko center is near Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. It has also changed its track and is due to make landfall near Batanes. The forecast also said that the storm is likely to weaken and may possibly become a low pressure area once it makes landfall.

It is now estimated to leave the PAR by Thursday morning, Sep. 7. It will continue to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over norther Luzon in the next 24 hours, so flood- and landslide-prone areas need to monitor the weather closely.

‘Bagyong Kiko’ continues to move towards extreme northern Luzon, bringing with it moderate to heavy rains. As of 5:00 a.m. on Sep. 5, the center of tropical depression Kiko was found around 345 km east of Casiguran, Aurora, according to a DOST-PAGASA live update via Facebook.

Typhoon signal no. 1 is already up over the provinces of Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.

‘Kiko’ To Bring Moderate To Heavy Rains, Threats Of Landslides

According to PAGASA, Kiko will bring moderate to heavy rains within the 300-km diameter of the storm. Although its center is passing through extreme northern Luzon, it will affect other parts of the northern Luzon including Baguio City and the rest of the Cordillera region.

With the threat of heavy rains comes the threat of landslides, so the weather agency issued a warning for areas that are prone to landslides. In Baguio City, authorities will surely be on the lookout for the road conditions of Kennon Road.

It also cited the possibility of flash floods brought on by the strong rains. According to the Summit Express, local government units have been advised to watch the status of rivers in Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera region.

‘Kiko” To Exit The Philippines By Wednesday Evening

According to PAGASA’s update on Sep. 5, the tropical depression is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday evening. PAGASA will provide another update by 11:00 a.m.

This is the 11th storm to enter the country this year. According to the weather agency, 4 more storms are expected to develop within the next two months.
