Tropical Storm Isang Brings Southwest Monsoon, Aug 22 Class Suspensions

The Philippines Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Tuesday, Aug 22 at 5 a.m., that tropical storm Isang has already passed the Batanes Area. The weather system continues to enhance the Southwest Monsoon which will bring light to heavy rains over the Visayas and the rest of Luzon. Residents of the western part of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) are alerted against possible landslides and flashfloods. Meanwhile, here’s a list of Aug 22 class suspensions due to the weather.

PAGASA reports that at 4 a.m. on Aug 22, Tuesday, the center of Tropical storm Isang, international name Hato, is estimated at 60 km West Northwest of Basco Batanes. It has maximum sustained winds of up to 80 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 97 kph. It is forecast to move west at 30 kph. In 24 hours it is predicted to be Northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Signal 1 and 2 raised in areas of Luzon and Batanes, Aug 22 Class Suspensions

According to PAGASA, Signal no. 1 is raised over areas of Luzon. Particularly Northern Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte. Signal No. 2, on the other hand, is raised over Batanes Group of Islands.

Meanwhile, classes are suspended in numerous areas. GMA reports the following class suspensions on Aug 22 due to the weather.
