Couple, Boy and Girl

Valentine’s Day has finally arrived. Everyone’s talking about how famous people celebrated this special day. But how about taking a look at how regular people celebrated this day?

Giving gifts, watching romantic movies, and dining together are just some of the common activities that couples do during Valentines. But did you know that there are couples who opt to celebrate this day in an unconventional but special way? These true stories of couples will make you realize that Valentine’s Day is more than just about gifts or surprises.

Let Us Not Date

Many couples celebrate Valentine’s Day by either giving gifts to each other or going out together. But Agnes Kiddal and Ador Bungtiwen don’t do such things. For them, this day is important but you don’t need to go on a date to make it exceptional.

Agnes and Ador have been together for ten years already. But they never agreed to go on a date on at all. During the 14th day of February, Ador and Agnes do their usual routines. Ador fulfills his job as a guard in a private school while Agnes stays at home waiting for him.

When asked why they don’t go on a date during holidays,  Agnes said that there is no specific date for a couple to hang out together. They have the freedom to go out anytime and anywhere they want. So they believe that every couple should be sweet to each other in every passing day not only during those special occasions.

Street Food Is Life

“Our relationship is not perfect but those simple things we do during Valentine’s Day make it work,” Shireen said.

“It’s not all about extravagant gifts or surprises, it’s about how you celebrate it as a couple,” Jason added.

For Shireen Joyce Prawon and Jason Laroya, Valentine’s Day is one of the most significant days a couple can have. This is the time where they explore new things and learn more about each other. But instead of dining in a fancy restaurant like other couples do, they do not forget to eat their favorite street foods at Mines View Park during Heart’s Day. It has become their tradition. Without street foods, their Valentine’s date wouldn’t be perfect. It may sound weird to others but for Shireen and Jason, this is the best way to celebrate a very special day. Shai added that if you are to eat street foods, find a clean place so you don’t risk your health.

Office Date

Shella Munoz and Alvin Cesario are both working students. They work as Data Entry Specialists. Both of them find it hard to celebrate Valentine’s Day since they are studying during day and working during night. But this is not enough reason for them to skip the celebration of love. In fact, they always make sure to make this day as memorable as possible.

Shella and Alvin celebrate Valentine’s Day in the office. Sometimes a sweet gesture like looking at each other’s eyes is enough for them to show their love and affection. This is the reason why some of their co-workers think that they are having a staring game every Valentines.

Shella’s favorite drink is coffee; on the contrary, Allan dislikes coffee so much. But he will do everything in the name of love. He always makes sure to prepare coffee for Shella in order to keep her alive in whatever she is encoding.

They may not have all the time and day to celebrate but at least they have found a way on how to make it meaningful.

Friends Matter

Both Shella and Shireen believe that Valentine’s Day is not just for couples but it is also for friends. Shella believes that this day is the perfect time for us to make good memories with those friends that we have- those friends who never left us and are always there for us. She thinks that even if there are many people who will leave us behind, our friends will never do. So Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to pay them back too.

Shireen, on the other hand, says that she values the people around her so much. Even though she already has a boyfriend, she always allots almost half of her time with them. Shireen believes that we should treasure every moment we have with our friends. So she never forgets to send sweet messages to them. As a matter of fact, she dates her friends before her boyfriend. This is her way of showing her deepest gratitude.

Valentine’s Day is indeed a celebration of love and affection but we should not also forget that this is the time that God has given us to spend not only with our boyfriend or girlfriend but with our family and friends. And we should always remember that celebrating this day is not defined by how much we spend but on how we spend it with our loved ones.
