We live in a day and age where the tech race refuses to slow down. Electronics companies continue to push boundaries and outdo each other. So much so, that your month-old phone may no longer be top-of-the-line today. It doesn’t mean you SHOULD replace your phone every month. But it does raise exciting thoughts of the future. To that end, here are 5 Upcoming Phones to Watch Out For.
Nokia X5
Nokia has announced a July 11 event where it would reveal a brand new device. It is currently unclear as to what the device is, but there is speculation that it will be the X5. Also known as the Nokia 5.1+, the unit will feature a slightly lower resolution than the China-exclusive X6. It will also utilize a MediaTek rather than a Snapdragon SoC.
The X5 will be Nokia’s first notched smartphone intended for a global market. While likely to have lower performance capability than the X6, the TENAA website specified a 2.0GHz octacore processor likely built for mobile gaming.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9
Samsung has been among the top competitors in the mobile device industry for quite some time. However, sales seem to have stagnated in the second quarter of 2018 against the competition. Their answer? The Note 9. The tech giant will officially unveil the device sometime in August, but a series of leaked photographs give us a glimpse of what to expect. Leaker Ice Universe revealed what many believe to be closest glimpse we have to the real deal.
Samsung Galaxy S10
And while we’re on the topic of Samsung, the company seems willing to take a much-needed risk with its 10th anniversary Galaxy lineup. Samsung aims to implement a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the three models of the Galaxy S10. This is a risky move, as multiple companies have already tried and failed to implement such a feature. The advantage of course, would be a much more natural and comfortable grip, and a sleeker design. Not much else is available at the moment, but consumers expect Samsung to reveal the S10 in February of 2019.
There are no official images of the S10 at the moment. However Forbes has stumbled onto several concept photos of the device.
Microsoft Surface Phone
While speculation about the Surface Phone goes back as far as 2012, it may finally see daylight in the near future. Twitter user WalkingCat managed to snap an image of a post from a Chinese website hinting at the device’s development.
The post suggests a stylus or “surface pen,” and a built-in projector. This means users will be able to turn any flat surface into a monitor, allowing for ease of access on an all-new level. Specifications are unclear, though it will likely run on a Snapdragon SoC.
Apple iPhone X Plus
Finally, we have the next model of the Apple iPhone X. An official announcement for this device is slated for September this year, but early information suggests the phone will have a 6.5-inch display. This makes it the largest iPhone thus far. Rumor is, the device will be available in a range of bright colors including pink, orange, and blue. There will also be a cheaper LCD variant, designed to cater to those unable to reach the hefty $1,000 price tag.
