Holy Week 2018, Philippines

The Malacañang Palace has recently announced the suspension of work in government offices and classes in public schools on Wednesday, March 28, from 12 pm onwards. This is to allow everyone to prepare for the upcoming Holy Thursday and Good Friday this Holy Week 2018. Meanwhile, banks in the Philippines have released their schedule of services during the holiday.

Walang Pasok March 28, classes suspended 12 pm onwards

According to ABS-CBN, the Office of the President of the Philippines has released Memorandum Circular No 43. See tweet below.

The memo declares “work in government offices, including government-owned and controlled corporations and local government units, and classes in all public school, state universities, and colleges” will be suspended on Wednesday, March 28, 12 on onwards.  This is for workers and families to prepare for Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

Work and class suspensions for private companies and independent bodies, however, are subject to the approval of their respective administrators.

Although work in government agencies are suspended, the memo states that government offices whose functions involve law enforcement, response action to disasters and calamities, and/or performance of other vital services are on standby for any emergency.

Bank Schedules Holy Week 2018

According to a report by CNN, BDO Unibank will be closed from March 29 to April 1. Electronic banking for BDO during the holidays except from 2 am to 7 am.

The Bank of The Philippine Islands (BPI), on the other hand, will also be closed from March 29-April 1. Regular bank operations will resume on April 2.

Several Metrobank branches will be opened for clients on Thursday while all branches will be opened on Friday. Only a few branches will be opened on Saturday and Sunday. For a list of Metrobank branches opened during Holy Week, click here.

China Bank and RCBC will be closed from Thursday to Sunday. All online and atm services will be closed for service as well. Regular banking resumes on April 2.

Security Bank will undergo maintenance from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday. There will be limited cash withdrawals on ATMs and services and interbank transfers will be out of service.
