What we visualize of the galaxies beyond the Milky Way is about to turn even more colorful. How can it not? Imagination is just as vast as the universe. So better watch out, ’cause “Valerian” is about to redefine space. Or better yet, get you to reimagine it. All thanks to none other than the acclaimed director of “The Fifth Element” and “Lucy,” Luc Besson. Oddly enough, this visual storyteller says this latest project took him 7 long years to finish.

On average, 2-3 years of filming and producing sounds reasonable. But to take 7 years? That’s got to be a whole new ball game. According to Luc, it was, in fact, all due to the 2,700 visual effects that he had to visualize himself and carefully coordinate to every frame.

The trailer itself previews an enchanting, almost ethereal realm of wonder and vibrant colors. Creatures unimaginable and action so literally out-of-this-world are sure to envelop you in a haze of curiosity and alerted attention.

After the successful hit of both “The Fifth Element” and “Lucy,” Luc Besson must’ve surely mastered the art of illustrating Science fiction, framing it, and creating an astonishing moving picture.

Cara Delevingne, Dane Dehaan to star in Luc Besson Sci-fi Action film ‘Valerian’

“Valerian” or “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” is a science fiction, action-packed film based on the 1967 French Sci-Fi comic novel “Valerian and Laureline” by Pierre Christin. The story fast forwards to the 28th Century where the Minister of Defense summons two space soldiers under Special Forces to protect and defend the intergalactic planet Alpha.

This once peaceful and thriving world is soon shaken by an unknown force. In an attempt to stop the unknown in speedy and incredible action, Valerian and Laureline must be the overriding power to stop that.

“Chronicle” star Dane Dehaan and rising actress Cara Delevingne will be playing the roles of Valerian and Laureline respectively. Additionally, joining them will be Clive Owen, Ethan Hawk and Pop artist Rihanna.

“Valerian” starring Cara Delevingne and Dane Dehaan hits theaters this July 21 nationwide.

Why it took 7 years to make VALERIAN:Fact: According to acclaimed director Luc Besson, it took him 7 years to finally complete Valerian. The main reason was perfecting the more than 2,700 visual effects needed for the film, using three special effects studios namely: George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic (Star Wars), James Cameron's Digital Domain (Avatar), and WETA Digital (Lord of the Rings franchise).
