June 29 Movie Playlist: An Interesting Mix of the Supernatural, Thievery, Time Travel, War Drama and Detective Hunt Downs

“Ang Pagsanib kay Leah Dela Cruz,” a film produced by Erik Matti, is one the country’s most anticipated films. Directed by Katski Flores and written by “Saving Sally” writer Charlene Esguera, this film promises something beyond just the scary and unknown. The film follows the story of a young girl named Leah dela Cruz (Shy Carlos) who took her own life by jumping off their balcony. This is then investigated by Ruth Lumawag (Sarah Lahbati) and from there, the plot thickens as the truth behind Leah’s motives are revealed and how innocence is easily lost.

Discontented Car Thief Brothers journey to France in “Overdrive.” The film is about two car thief brothers, Andrew and Garret Foster, who decide to go to France for a bigger break but find themselves tied up with a crime boss. Andrew and Garrett specialize in stealing only the most expensive luxury cars. Their French heist has something to do with a Bugatti 1937, owned by the local crime boss Jacomo Morier. The film stars Simon Abkarian, Ana de Armas, Scott Eastwood, Gaia Weiss and Freddie Thorp.

A time machine inventor searches for her kidnapped son through time travel in “Reset.” In this film produced by Jackie Chan and directed by Hong Seung Yoon and Chang, time travel becomes a mother’s only option to search for her kidnapped son. Upon the completion of the time machine invented by a single mother, Xia Tian, her son Dou Dou is kidnapped. The masterminds behind the heinous crime did this only because they wanted the time machine for themselves. The only way Xian can have her son back is by teaming up with her past selves, 50 minutes back, to put a stop to the kidnapping.

Japanese Manga “In this Corner of the World,” now a live action film. Animatsu Entertainment paved the way for the global distribution of this multi-awarded Japanese animated war drama. It is directed and co-written by Sunao Katabuchi. The story is set to the 1940’s in Hiroshima and Kure 10 years after the atomic bomb. It tells of the circumstances of the war’s aftermath through the life of a young artist named Suzu. The events of the plot are based on true-to-life incidents and memories researched by the film’s production staff.

The first North-South Korean Joint Investigation is official in “Confidential Assignment.”  The film directed by Kim Sungh-hoon stars Hyun Bin, Yoo Hae-jin and Kim Joo-hyuk. The plot revolves around highly trained North Korean investigator Im Cheol-ryung and SouthKorean detective Kang Jin-tae. Their confidential mission is to hunt down Cha Ki-seong. He the leader of the illegal North Korean organization who is out in hiding in the South. Will these archenemies put aside their differences for the sake of justice?
