So from the trailer, we could see three characters: Sam Milby as Max, Angel Locsin as Andi and Zanjoe Marudo as Christian. Sam and Andi look like they were together up until Max had to leave for the US. Andi was left alone feeling depressed. And after what seem to be a number of years, they meet again only to find out that her ex-love Max, is now with a hottie guy, Christian. That’s why it’s modern, just in case you it didn’t sink in.
Sam Milby as ex-boyfriend turned gay ex-boyfriend
Well, we know for a fact that news have been going around (since time in memorial), about Sam being gay. Could his role in this movie actually be a confirmation to those rumors?
According to the Inquirer, Sam Milby has agreed to play the role of Max without hesitation. He said, “I’m comfortable with my sexuality, If I were someone who wanted to hide something about myself, I wouldn’t do a role that would expose that part about me.” Sam went on to say that ge is always look for new and challenging roles but couldn’t imagine doing hard core scenes like in “Broke Back Mountain.”
Sam further explained that he felt awkward doing the ‘lambingan’ scenes with Zanjoe early on but was more comfortable when the co-actor’s decided to just enjoy their work.
Angel Locsin, ‘nasawi’
In the trailer we see Angel playing the estranged ex-girlfriend who is now living with her gay ex-boyfriend because of a problem with her home. Angel is torn between feeling awkward and jealous at the same time.
She tells Inquirer, that this role was something new to her because its a light and fun role compared to the heavy drama she is used to doing. For her, Andi (Locsin’s character) is more like her real personality. “This is (also) about a person who is confused whether she should set herself free, or fight for the person she loves,” she added since also broke up with a boyfriend once because of a third party.
Zanjoe, the third party?
Christian, Zanjoes’s character, is one that is hated by many, the third party. In the trailer, we see Zanjoe trying his best to get used to the fact that Max (Sam Milby) was still trying to understand the situation and so he himself has to adapt. Zanjoe tells the Inquirer,“Whether the person you love has left you for someone of the same sex doesn’t seem important anymore, because the fact that you were left behind is painful enough.”
The story seems like a very tragic story but looking at the trailer, it looks like it does live up to its genre, romantic comedy. Who’s love will win Max’s heart? Andi or Christian?
Catch “The Third Party” showing on cinemas on October 12.
