Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Duke of Cambridge Prince William and pop icon Lady Gaga talk about how speaking out about mental health problems can greatly help those who suffer from them. In a Facetime call, both of them acknowledged how important it is to start a conversation about mental health. A video of the call has been shared on social media which is seen below. It showed Lady Gaga taking the call in her home, while Prince William was at his desk in Kensington Palace. Mental health as a common advocacy for Lady Gaga and Prince William The video starts Lady Gaga preparing a cup of coffee in her kitchen and then making the call to Prince William. Once she has the Prince on the line, she thanks him and praises him for his work in the Heads Together campaign. She also said that the campaign put together beautiful stories about speaking out about mental health. The campaign is being spearheaded by Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton and his brother Prince Harry. With the hashtag #OktoSay, it aims to start the conversation about mental health and stop the negative stereotypes associated with it. #OKtoSay Starting The Open Conversation About Mental Health Prince William also praised Lady Gaga for her open letter, saying it was “brave” of her “to write down such personal feelings.” He also asked her how speaking out made her feel. Lady Gaga had previously admitted suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder at some point in her career. To this, Gaga says, “It made me very nervous at first. For me, waking up every day and feeling sad and going onstage is something that is very hard to describe..” She adds, “you can’t help it if in the morning when you wake up you are so tired, you are so sad, you are so full of anxiety and the shakes that you can barely think. But, it was like saying this is a part of me, and that’s okay.” The prince then shared what he has learned so far from this advocacy. For him, it is very important to ”break open that fear, that taboo,” and that being open about it is the best start in addressing mental illnesses. Towards the end of the call, both personalities also agreed to sit down and discuss what they can do together when Lady Gaga visits the U.K. in October. Watch the video below: Facebook Comments
