If you happen to be in Baguio in the coming two weeks, you can welcome the Year of the Metal Rat with these lineup of activities. This 2020, the Baguio Filipino-Chinese community in partnership with the Baguio City Government, launched the Spring Festival festivities last Jan. 13.

What to Expect: Spring Festival 2020 in Baguio

Among the main activities for this year’s celebrations are the Barangay Gift-Sharing, the Grand Colorful Parade, and the Cocktails Fellowship and Awards Dinner. The traditional gift-giving at the Bell Church will not be done this year. This will be replaced by the Run for a Cause event.

On Jan. 21, beneficiaries from San Luis Village and Asin Road will be receiving gifts at the CDRRMC at Lower Rock Quarry. The Run for a Cause happens on Spring Festival weekend, Jan. 25. Gun start is a 5:00 a.m. at the Lake Drive in Burnham Park. Proceeds from the race will benefit BGHMC pediatric patients. The run is a collaboration of the community with the University of Baguio.

Honoring the Pillars of Community

The Grand Colorful Parade will be on Jan. 27, Monday. It features representatives from the Baguio Filipino-Chinese community as they parade from Upper Session Road to the Melvin Jones Grandstand. Traditionally, parade-watchers are treated to a shower of sweet treats tossed by members of the Filipino-Chinese community during the parade.

To cap the festivities, the community hosts a Cocktail Fellowship at 6:00 p.m. and the Awards Dinner at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 27. Both events will be hosted at the Diamond Ballroom of Hotel Supreme, which is owned by one of the pillars of the Baguio Filipino-Chinese community, spouses Peter and Evelyn Ng.
