This is contrary to what rumors are saying. Officials of the WESCOM say an investigation is underway. They are coordinating with other intelligence units to verify this rumor. On April 20, members of the Joint Task Unit in Coron immediately scouted the waters of Palawan when they received reports saying Abu Sayyaf were en route to Coron Palawan. In A report by ABS-CBN says the task unit was there to ensure security around the area. WESCOM denies rumors that Abu Sayyaf is in Palawan The Palawan News says that no sightings have beeing confirmed yet despite rumors saying that the Abu Sayyaf is present in Palawan. Acting spokesperson of the WESCOM Lt. Col. Sonny Gonzales says the news is being validated. He added that they are coordinating with other intelligence units to know for sure if they would at least be more “pro-active” just in case. This statement was given during a press conference held at the WESCOM headquarters in Puerto Princesa City on April 19. Although WESCOM has denied Abu Sayyaf sightings, the report says military units are at strategic points in the area patrolling the province. Lt. Gonzales warned everyone to be extra vigilant and be on the lookout for unfamiliar faces in the area. Gonzales has called the cooperation of all sectors which include resort owners.
