Photo by Brigitte Tohm on Unsplash Here are genius things to do on Valentine's Day Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Comedian Jim Gaffigan once said, “Without Valentine’s Day, February would be…well, January.” Come to think of it, what he says is true. Without the so-called Poet’s Holiday, Cupid will not only weep himself to extinction, but a year without the romanticisms is surely going to be dreary and such a bore. Admit it, everyone needs some sweetness whether it be from a special someone, a dear friend, the family, or even from one’s self (actually). So, as Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, there are a number of ways to feel all-so-chocolatey in the inside without necessarily spending a fortune. A little thoughtfulness and creativity will make the day memorable. 5 Things To Do on Valentine’s Day For some Swoons and Sighs 1. Have breakfast at your favorite coffee shop and write each other poetry. To keep rekindling their love, the Japanese would send letters to each other, writing nothing but poetry. The art of letter and poetry writing is unsurpassed when it comes to expressing intimate thoughts and emotions. You can even go as far as write (and sing) a song. You don’t have to get picky here. Rhymes aren’t a must and these can be simply written on the café’s table napkins, placemats, or receipts. These what-nots will be great for a scrapbook! Breakfast and poetry (Photo via Unsplash) 2. Indulge on all things chocolate. Charles Schulz may be known for Charlie Brown and the Peanuts but some may not know that he had a thing for chocolate. “All you need is love,” he says, “but a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” And so that, my friend is why you MUST make sure to buy some chocolate. It could be a chocolate cake, a chocolate pie, and fruits with some chocolate sauce, chocolate fondue, chocolate ice cream, a Twix bar, Lindt’s Dark Chocolate, Andes Mints, or the Pinoy all-time faves Cloud 9 and yes, even the chocnut Vital –whatever it is, just go for it! All the stress just melts away with a simple back rub or a good massage. A little pampering goes a long way for weary souls. Some aromatherapy, essential oils and some hot tea would be more than refreshing. It can be the very thing you need to feel all the more loved. A little zen can go a long way. Go for the DIY homemade meal that guarantees the sparks, smiles, swoons and laughs that naturally go along with the little successes and bloopers in whipping up a meal in an actual kitchen. For the vulnerable and the downright impressive pretend-chefs, the whole experience is nothing short of romantic, if you ask me. You can cook anything, really, like your favorite food that is fancied up with a candle light table set up, flowers, some plating and presentation. But then, if you want to go the extra mile, Nigella Lawson’s Valentine Menu Ideas or Jamie Oliver’s Dreamy DIY Romantic Recipes may be nice to try. And of course, don’t forget your awesome playlist! Because fireworks are so expensive (not to mention, against the law), why not go on a “Superdate,” as Ted Mosby calls it on How I Met Your Mother. His version is fireworks in the Manhattan skyline after having dinner, but our version could be a walk to remember in the park at night time. After the stroll in the moonlight, you can find the perfect spot to sit and watch classic Aubrey Hepburn films like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” or “Sabrina.” Other swoon-worthy films that can be added to that list are “Sleepless in Seattle” with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan; “Before Sunrise” with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy; and Robert Downy Jr. and Marisa Tomei in “Only You.” Sharing earphones may be considered a must, as well as some take-out hot chocolate and donuts. If you’re able to naturally pull any of these off, then you’ll definitely hear Barney say, “It’s going to be legen….(wait for it!)…dary!” (How I Met Your Mother fans unite!)
