Need A Morning Picker-Upper? 6 Reasons Why Zola Is The Place To Go

Zola, Baguio City

Living and working in an urban jungle isn’t at all as easy as pie. Although it has its perks, there are times when the dreary and mundane just couldn’t help but get to us no matter what we do to prevent it. Sometimes the only answer is to have a cup of coffee and have a decent breakfast.

Known as “Food for Kings” by some, a leisurely breakfast has its own way of making us feel loved again – both by work and life. It’s a good thing Zola has just the thing any person would need as a morning picker-upper.

6 Best Ways to Enjoy Breakfast at Zola

1. Celebrate the quirky side of the day with Zola’s Funnel Cake with a group of friends (Php 90). This dish is definitely not for the faint in heart. This is why, should anyone order this, a rule of thumb would be to enjoy it with friends who love anything deep-fried, Zola’s Funnel Cake, in all its simplicity, is deep fried sweet dough pastry that is served with its very own chocolate ganache dip. According to Zola’s chef, Chef Oh, they use a squeeze bottle to let the batter out into the hot oil. This is the reason for its quirky shape. After giving it a good fry, it is drizzled with chocolate and served hot. That’s everything to it! No nonsense.

2. Know what “Leisure” really means with Zola’s Grilled Cheese Ham Sandwich (Php 95). Seriously, if you’re dead tired and needing a hug, this is the sandwich to order for brunch at Zola. No joke. The makings of such a sandwich is divine. First, you have Zola’s elegant house bun; second, you have some ham, which is then topped by a perfectly cooked sunny side up egg; and (wait for it…) oozing melted mozarella cheese! If you slice into all these elements, the yolk from the egg oozes out and then gets mixed into the gooey cheese. Each mouthful is just heavenly! It gets better, by the way. The sandwich comes with some fresh micro-greens and some shoestring potatoes. What more can you ask for? It is, if I must say, their version of the beloved Eggs Benedict. Let’s be “sosyal” without being expensive, once in a while, shall we?

3. Fluff up with Zola’s Blueberry Pancakes (Php 99). Now here’s the thing. Anyone who knows anything about pancakes will agree that a hearty pancake is fluffy, creamy, buttery, moist and has a certain underbaked-like texture. Zola’s fluffy pancakes meets the description, for sure. The best thing about their homemade pancakes is that you won’t need to order syrup and butter anymore. For some good reason, every bite of this tastes just right as it is (with the blueberry sauce, of course!). Zola’s Blueberry Pancakes are good for sharing, by the way.

4. Have a taste of home with Zola’s Deli Omelet and Rice (Php 105). Any home has its own version of an omelet and there is so much you can do with such a dish. For Zola, they combine ham, bacon, some bell pepper bits and cheese. The egg is cooked just right and even how it is seasoned. Enjoying a plateful of this, along with some fried rice, is just like sitting by the dinner table at home, getting energized for the day’s to-do list.

5. Get comfy with the American Breakfast (Php 120). If you’re the type who wants a little bit of everything, Zola’s American Breakfast may be a good option. It has all the goodstuff in it: bacon, ham, hash brown, eggs, butter, jam and, of course, some toast. There’s no rush here. If you have a lot of time in your hands and would just like to cruise through your morning with the day’s news bits, this is the perfect plate for you. It makes any simple man feel like a business exec!

6. Eat the stress away and load up with Zola’s Ingenious Bacon Rice (Php 140). If you can’t get enough of bacon, you’ll have a kick with Zola’s Bacon Rice. It is beautifully plated with some garlic stir-fried rice with thinly sliced pork belly, some slices of boiled egg, with some beer battered bacon strips that stand tall on the plate. This protein-and-carbohydrate-rich dish is balanced with a lemon slice and some paprika meant to perk up the dish even more. It qualifies as the sought-after “Breakfast for Champions.”

With all these options, there will never be a dreary day again. For a laborer’s weary soul, breakfast is a well-deserved leisure and Zola’s perks and friendly prices make it easy for everyone to enjoy this. Besides, why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food?
