Her newest work entitled Sertipiko ng Tayo, comes just in time for this season of graduations and new beginnings. But there is more to it than just celebrating new beginnings. After she posted the piece on Facebook, it has been viewed over 9,900 times and shared 260 times. In this Pilipinas Popcorn exclusive, Beverly Cumla shares the real story behind her recent spoken word piece. She gamely opens up about how it is one of the first pieces she has written that is based on her own life experiences. Beverly is known for her viral spoken word pieces such as Ang Boyfriend Kong Writer and Para Sa Girlfriend Ng Writer. Achievement Before Commitment The line from Beverly’s post, Achievement Before Commitment, basically sums up one of her important messages in the spoken word piece. She wanted to make something of herself first, and this was by graduating from college, before getting into a relationship. According to her, the guy, Macoy, asked her parents for permission to court her. After hearing this, her parents set the rule that she should finish her studies first. For Beverly, she was surprised that Macoy learned to follow this rule. The two of them have known each other since they were freshmen blockmates in Lyceum. While Macoy had a girlfriend at that time, Beverly was nursing a broken heart. Both were part of one circle of friends and when Macoy had a falling out in his relationship, this became one of the reasons why they became best friends. The friendship turned into something more especially for Macoy, who saw Beverly as someone who was always there for him. Even when Macoy transferred to PUP on his second year of college, he remained loyal and true to Beverly. Despite the distance, he manages to see her everyday and fetch her. This and all the effort he has put in to show how much he cared for her showed how serious he is. And he did all this without assurance from Beverly. On Her Graduation Day, She Gives The Gift Of Love So on the day that she graduates Magna Cum Laude, Beverly also gave Macoy a gift he has been waiting for. Now that she is finished with her studies, she says that is high time for her to get into a relationship.
