Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Ever since Season 1 of Game of Thrones, fans have had their fair share of grief over the loss of beloved characters. To be fair, most of these characters suffered horrible deaths. To recall a few, there’s Ned Stark, Catelyn Stark, and Robb Stark. Who could forget the brutal deaths each of those Starks suffered? Then, there’s also the kids who died unreasonable deaths like Shireen Baratheon and Myrcella Baratheon. As Game of Thrones is coming closer to its finale, the remaining living characters are dropping quicker than raindrops. And since most of these characters have been with fans since the first season, each death stings a little bit more than the others. Here’s a rundown of the Game of Thrones characters who don’t make it to the series finale of Season 8: Death by the Night King Season 8 of Game of Thrones begins with the living gearing up with the battle with the dead. And in the final battle with the army of the dead, many beloved characters see the end of the line. After the war, the survivors offer them a tearful and heartbreaking goodbye. These are the characters who died at the hands of the Night King and his army: HBO Ned Umber The first casualty of the war with the dead in this season is the young Lord Ned Umber. He and his men were just supposed to get their people to Winterfell but, the Night King didn’t give them a chance. Ned was only found later by Berric and the others as the centerpiece of the Night King’s spiral symbol. Eddard Tollett or Dolorous Edd In the battle itself, Jon’s good friend and the current commander of the Night’s Watch died by a stab to the back after saving Sam’s life. Lyanna Mormont When an undead giant crashed through the gates of Winterfell, Lyanna Mormont fearlessly charged towards it. The giant crushed her in its hand but, not before she stabbed its eye with dragonglass taking it down with her. Beric Dondarrion The man with the flaming sword dies sacrificing himself to ensure that the Hound and Arya get to safety in the halls of Winterfell. Theon Greyjoy Despite his past shortcomings, Theon fought until his very last breath to protect Brandon Stark as he sat bait for the Night King. Jorah Mormont In pure devotion and love for his queen, Jorah never let himself fall until he was sure Daenerys was safe. Jorah fought until his very last breath protecting his queen and his love Daenerys Targaryen. Melisandre Since she has served her purpose, Melisandre walks out to the dawn and takes off her necklace revealing her true self before collapsing to her final breath. Death by Cersei Cersei has killed her own share of characters over the years. And now, she has a couple more to add to her list. HBO Rhaegal In her attempt to storm King’s Landing, Daenerys lost her dragon Rhaegal in a brutal rain of arrows from the scorpion weapon operated by Euron Greyjoy. Missandei Following that failed attack on King’s Landing, Cersei captured Missandei. And in response to Daenerys’ call for her surrender, Cersei had Missandei beheaded in front of Daenerys and Grey Worm. Death by Dragonfire In the second to the last episode of the season, fans saw a total slaughter. Twitter saw fans raging about it. It was the last battle for the throne. And it ultimately ended in the destruction of King’s Landing and the death of the millions living in it. In addition to that, fans finally saw the end to some of the show’s long-standing characters. HBO Varys Sadly, the Master of Whispers didn’t get to pull one last trick. After Daenerys found out about his shifted loyalties to Jon, she had him burned for treason by Drogon. Euron Greyjoy Euron survived Daenerys’ assault on his fleet. But, he didn’t survive the match between him and Jaime when he confronted the Lannister on his way to save Cersei. Qyburn Qyburn died at the hands of his own creation the Zombie Mountain after he tried to stand in the Mountain’s way to his battle with the Hound. The Hound and The Mountain Fans got their long-awaited Cleganebowl. However, in the end, both brothers perished when the Hound pushed the Mountain off the edge of the Red Keep. Both of them went tumbling into the Dragonfire burning beneath them. Cersei and Jaime Lannister These ill-fated lovers almost made it to the end. But, their escape route under the Red Keep was blocked off by rubble on all ends. In the end, they stood there in each other’s arms as the whole building collapsed on them courtesy of Daenerys. With an episode left on Game of Thrones, the death list will probably have a few more additions. It’s only a matter of who and how. And with the handful of characters left, the stakes are higher than ever before. Facebook Comments
