A lot of movies were released this month of Feb-ibig and “Meet Me In St. Gallen” is one of those movies that are making waves in the Philippine cinema. The romantic comedy-drama film was written and directed by Emma Villamor and was produced by Spring Films, the same production which brought the country’s highest grossing Indie film of all Time “Kita-Kita.”

Meet Me In St. Gallen revolves around two characters who are going through different kinds of situations. Celeste (Bela Padilla) just had an argument with her boss and Jesse (Carlo Aquino) had a fight with his parents for choosing his rock band over his studies. The two met in a coffee shop where they realized that their names similar to those in a romantic comedy-drama called “Celeste and James Forever.” On their first meeting, they talked about destiny, compromise, and sacrifice. They mutually decide to end their day with a kiss which led to a one-night stand.

On their second meeting, Jesse and Celeste met in another coffee shop. They talked about their dreams, solitude, and loneliness. And on their third and last meeting, they bumped into each other in St. Gallen in Switzerland where Celeste is based. But will they be able to stay together in each other’s arm now or just like their first and second meeting, they will drift apart?

As of now, the movie already earned 55 million pesos since its release last February 7.

1.The film acknowledges the fact that relationships are made and broken by timing

Meet Me In St. Gallen is not your typical love story. It didn’t start with love at first sight and didn’t end with “they live happily ever after.” The movie served as an eye-opener that every kind of relationship goes through a lot of challenges but destiny has its own way of bringing it back together. An important emphasis of the film is that it is relatable. Single or not, one can feel every emotion that each character want to portray. This alone is an essential reason for everyone to watch “Meet Me In St. Gallen.”

2.Carlo Aquino and Bela Padilla’s surprising chemistry

Many people might say that it takes a love team to feel the “kilig” in a drama. But Bela Padilla and Carlo Aquino proved that it doesn’t need to be a love team as long as the audience can feel the strong connection among the characters. And they never failed us, knowing that the film is their first project together.

Bela never seemed to be acting throughout the movie that’s why she carried her dialogues naturally. Carlo, on the other hand, showed the power of his acting skills which we’ve witnessed since he was still a kid. Because of their screen presence and charisma as a couple, it was never hard to feel the chemistry they have together. And this chemistry has carried the film as a whole and it was never hard to understand what the film wants the audience to grasp before leaving the cinema.

3.Conversations seemed to be light and simple but are absolutely unforgettable

During the first parts of the movie, the dialogues between Celeste and James seemed to have no directions at all. But as the film goes by especially throughout the ending, people will come to realize that every line matters. They have their own set of meaning and significance not only in the story but in the life of the characters as well. So if you are going to watch the movie, make sure not to ignore every single word that the characters might utter.

4.The story actually happened in three days but the three days were spread in the course of six years

Yes, you read it right! Jesse and Celeste had only three days together! And this is definitely one of the main reasons why you shouldn’t miss the film. Its unique characteristics in dialogues and patterns make the film stand out among other films that many of us usually watch. You may be thinking how did it happen or how can a story be understandable if the characters had only three days together? Well, if you are getting curious already, go straight to the nearest cinema in your place and I assure you that you will be able to know and understand what I am saying.

5.Meet Me In St. Gallen is for everyone

The movie is rated PG by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) so everyone has the privilege to watch Meet Me In St. Gallen. However, parents should be able to guide their young children since rated PG implies parental guidance for young viewers. But to add more fun, you can just bring the whole family with you in the cinema then brace yourself to fall in love with the whole production as they bring you a different kind of movie experience!
